I dont understand gearing!

K, I want gear my truck to do atleast 40mph or more. Im going to run the HB (Buggy Ratio) Diffs, 2nd gear (maxx), and ofna 51t spur. Im going to run 14 IB4200 cells. Now the motor, hmm. O yeah a 1940/7, but Im wishing for a 1950/6. For now Ill run the stock tires till I can buy the mashers and maybe beadlocks. I heard all about the striped hexes.

An 18-19 tooth pinion will give you 40mph on either motor.

Im only getting 37 with 51/20. I using 1.0 volt per battery.

1.2v is the nominal voltage of NiMH cells, but will drop to 1v or lower if the motor is demanding lots of current (~100A). On a fresh charge, they will be around 1.4v, but quickly drop to ~1.2v. Matched and zapped cells can maintain a better voltage under extreme loads, but still expect ~1v.

So 40-48mph it should run cool? Right? How well does lipo hold? Also what size plugs do I need to hook the motor up? Its not the hi-amp so theres 6 plugs coming out of it.

You direct wire those type of motors I believe. As for the 6 plugs, thats so you can wire it in WYE & DELTA configurations....

Since when do they have 6 plugs? AFAIK, they've always had only three female plugs with traces on the back of the motor to reconfigure for Wye or Delta.

So theres no way to put plugs on it? And what is the wye and delta? Whats better?

The 30xx have the 6 plugs. The 22xx and below have three with the solder traces.

Without getting into the Y vs D debate, there is no "better". D config will have 1.73x the kv of a Y config, but 1.73x less torque. So, it depends on what voltage you plan on running. Or, if you have the motor with plugs, a quick rewire lets you go from a 2s to 3s battery pack without changing the motor - kinda like having two seperate motors in one package.

It is said that D config motors run equally efficient in both directions, while Y operates a little more efficiently that the D config, but in one direction (the other direction is not as good, but not bad either).

Anyway, I think some places just use one picture of a lehner with the 6 poles sticking out the back as the picture for all the lehner motors models they sell, so thats why it gets confusing- looking at the lehner site directly will confirm how it is wired up, though I trust Skellyo & What's nitro.
