UBEC or BEC? And Witch One? - 09.06.2007, 02:08 AM

K I dont know the difference between a bec and ubec. And what one should I get? The rc-monster one looks huge and its $40. I saw CC has one. What about this one? http://www.xushobby.com/servlet/Detail?no=38 CandyMan uses this one. He can mount it under the center cvds on the gorilla chassis.http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/138.jpg

The Koolflight systems is the most widely used UBEC... there are many though, Mike sells the Koolflight unit. I am using S&T Pro BEC, it is working great and is half the size of the Koolflight.

I have 2 koolflights and they work great, one stopped working one time because it was strapped to a piece of carbon fiber and started shorting out, now I have velcro under it for padding, and that solved that.

Get the one Mike sells. The difference is the bec is in the esc, the ubec is external and a completely different component.

I got Koolflights in both my G-maxx and G-revo, Both mounted under the front center shaft.

Actually the UBEC is the koolflight one, all others are just external BEC's. Koolflight is the only one to actually use the word ultimate

The Koolflight did pretty well in testing:

Koolflght BEC Test

And a couple others for comparison.

Dimension Engineering Park BEC Test

Inexpensive generic BEC Test

I'm kinda partial to the KF one. Yeah, it's bigger physically, but that's what I like about it. If a UBEC output is 6v @ 3A and operating at 80% efficiency, that is still 3.6w it has to dissipate. For that you need surface area and the KF one is large enough to really help with that. Add to that the fact that we generally beat on our electronics and overengineered products last longer. Just my $0.02...
