I started a thread in the temp forum when I got the motor in, and now I am almost done. I am waiting for my antenna mount, and I still need to get a battery. I also need to drill some holes in the battery mount to lighten it up, put a little foam padding on it and put the velcro strap on it.
I have only raced 18th scale for the last couple years and don't have any batteries other than 2/3A size, so I borrowed a Tyco 7.2v sub C battery (yeah thats right - TYCO) from a buddy of mine just so I could set the MM and get the steering servo centered and setup. After getting everything set I said what the heck and tried to see if it had enough juice to even run the thing. I was expecting it to cog, but to my surprise - it never did. I actually took it out in the street and drove it until the battery dumped - and not one cog. Anyways, here are the pics. The last one show the "please don't hit my expensive - it will burn up if punctured" battery guard. It is bent 90 deg. and keys into the notch on the bottom of the battery plate. I don't plan on using it all the time, just when racing or bashing with bigger trucks.
Great job on it!! I think it is time for an extended chassis though. =) With that much power and so much crowding on it... it would be a major bonus to the car.
Thanks for the comments guys. I will probably get the extended chassis down the road sometime, but the first I have to get a battery. I was planning on getting Maxamps 3S 5000mah, but after some reading, I may get a dewalt battery and make a couple 4S1p A123 packs.
I will be ordering something within the next week, I am just not sure which. I really blew my budget on this one with the Plett - plus I bought a K.O. Helios radio. Oh well, I guess I will use the Tyco pack in the for now.
Nope- I have ran it twice with it. It's a sub C pack made for 10th scale, but it doesn't have a mah rating or anything listed on it. It's all I have right now other than 1/18th scale packs. It's pretty funny - brushless Crt.5 with a Plettenberg, controlled by a K.O. Helios and powered by TYCO. Ha,ha,ha...
Well I went out and tested it again. This time I used my friend super high powered 3000mah Radio Shack battery. I know it a big jump, but I figured the Plett could handle it. With the Tyco battery I had a 15t pinion on it. For the Radio Shack battery I threw on a 20t pinion. I took it out in the street and did some "speed" runs for about 10 mins until my pinion loosened. I brought it in and the motor and esc were both warm, but not too hot to hold my hand on. Man this sucks running crap batteries - anyone want to donate to "The Mailman needs a Lipo" fund?
Thanks - I am just worried about getting T-boned and having the battery punctured. The way you have to stand Lipos up on the crt.5 leaves them pretty vulnerable in a side impact.
nice clean job mainman. you're batt case has got to be the most secure looking system I have ever seen...on anything. No worries with that monster clamp!
