Looking for a good speed controler.

I now have some Maxamp 8000mah 3s batteries that have a continous draw of 160Amps.
The Mamba Max controler that i have tends to get a bit warm when using these batteries.
Can anyone recomend a good controler that will handle these batteries and amp draw without too much trouble and getting too hot?

The MGM 16018 seam to be a great controler. Don't know if it's better than a MM, but somes guys here seam to like it.
But i must said to you that's not your pack that make heat up your controler, it's more your motor and gear setup.
Your pack is good to hold 160A, but your pack don't send 160A continuous to your controler.
what's your setup?? motor, gearing and and which r/c do you have this setup in?

Ok, This could be my problem.
At the moment I have a Mamba maxx 57000 and controler running on a 8000mah 3s Lipo.
I have it over geared a fair bit. Standard gearing is 24Tpinion and 54T spur. The setup that i have now is 33T pinion and 54T Spur.

All this is in a traxxas Jato.

So from what you are saying is that with this setup The motor is working too hard and heating up the controler?
I should be looking for a larger motor like a Lehner 1930,1940 or a Neu motor?

go on BriandG r/c calculation, and with your setup, if you use the jato single speed conversion (i hope you use it) your top speed estimation is about 117 m/h And your motor spin in the 63000 rpm range you'll destroy it !

Don't look for a better controler Just gear it 11/54 and you'll be about 39 m/h.
But, the problem with this gearing, is that you motor will it the tranny case, so the best thing to do is go for a 2s li-po, and your 5700MM motor will take a big breath of fresh air and apreciated alot and will spin in the 40000 rpm range. And you'll can gear it 16/54 and you'll not have problem with your motor hiting the tranny.

I have over geared it to try to get it up to about 120-140kph.(75-85mph).

I think the MambaMax 5700 motor might be a tad small for this gearing. This might be why the controler is getting pretty warm.

I have it locked into second gear eliminating first all toghther.

For this over geared ratio would something like a Lehner 1930 or 1940 be bettter suited or will I have to go even larger motor again.
I still want the motor to run aup to about 40,000rpm and still run on 11.1V

Look at this, with your gearing , 11.1 and a Neu 1515 1.5d, your motor will stay above 30000 rpm and you'll it about 108 km/h.

Enter all your setup in blank space, for tire diameter, put 4", and in motor choice, select Neu 1515, 1.5d.

I think from the info that i have now recieved and found I think the best option to go for is the Neu 1515/1D motor.

I will run a tad over 40,000rpm and i think it will have enough torque with this high gearing 33T/54T without over heating.

Just got to find out if it will run of the Mmaba maxx speed controler.

Unless you gear low, the MM will have issues with the Neu. There is supposed to be a software fix for that, but it's about as definite as the MMM release.

For the Neu motors, your best bet is an MGM or Quark.

Cimetery gates (not sure if is this guys but anyway), here on this forum, tell me that is MM/Neu combo work very good, exept of a little cogging on start, but if he play with gearing, it's smooth enough. Anyways, i'll try it i've a MM controler and i order a Neu 1515, 1Y for my revo and i'll give it a try.

with the Neu motors will the MGM or Quark give more torque than the 1515/1D?

I really need a motor that is going to give a real lot of torque at 11.1V and also run up to about 40,000rpm.

I had a look at the Neu site and it was either a 1515 motor or a 1512 motor.

I take it that the 1515 is going to have mor torque than a 1512 motor but no they have more torque than a MGM or Quark.

The transmision isn't going to be a problem as it is a metal one.

The MGM and Quark are ESC companies. The reason they were mentioned was because Neu motors seem to run well on these particular ESC's.

I think I will get a 1515/1D and run it on the mamabaMax controler and see how it goes.
I figure I could drive around the cogging issues as it is mainly going to be setup for high spped runs and not so much stop starting as in racing.

Watch out though, if you cog it for 1 second too long, it WILL burn up the controller instantly! I know from experience...
