Which way would you go?

Looking at currently available (can buy today) Neu options for a CRT.5 (with an OFNA long chassis conversion) running 2s2p through a Mamba Max controller.

First, there is the mighty mite 1506/2D 5200 KV, 1.8 inches in length which is about the same size as a Mamba CMS (I think..).

Second, there is the "what the heck am I doing in a 1/12 truck" 1512 1D/4875, 2.4 inches in length probably similar to an L can?..

Either would work. I would normally opt for bigger is better, but after reading a thread or two about some results people had with a 1930 and the load it placed on the MM controller I don't know if thats the smart move.

Ignoring price, anyone care to throw an opinion out there?

The 1512 is a helluva big motor for a 1/12. people put those in Revos. 1505 sounds too small. You need something "just right" Goldilocks.

If you are worried about loads, why not go higher voltage (4s1p) and lower kv? Its all a wash powerwise, but its a cooler system at the end.

Just edited the 1505 - its 1506.

The 1509 is the just right option - but its MIA in the marketplace right now, unless I commit to going to 3s and then I can buy a 2700Kv version.

That motor would haul balls on 4S, and be very respectful on 3S I think. Depending on what you are aiming for and if you have batts already or not, I would go with this. Along w/ a 4S 3200 pack, that would lots of fun and long runtimes.

IDK about the Neu w/ the MM tho. I know they don't like the big motors in larger conversions, but it seems they work better for smaller motors, but I don't know this for a fact. I would double check this first before committing to anything.

My original plan for my CRT.5 was Neu 1506/1Y (3600 kv) and 3s 4000mah 20C Lipo. I was able to recondition my Feigao 9L (kv ~2700), and am currently using that on 3s 4000mah Lipo with great success.

I don't own one my self but Neu's and MM have issue's from time to time. Cogging!!!!

I understand the potential for problems between the MM and a Neu.

That said, anyone have any input on the 1512 4875Kv? I'm concerned that motor would draw some serious current and that a lower Kv version of that motor or the 1509 can would be a better call...(but require 3s or 4s batteries).

1512 is quite too much for a CRT.5. Contact Mike if you want to get a certain wind he doesn't currently have shown in stock on the website.

MetalMan, I've been looking for a Feigao 9L for my CRT.5. Where do I find one? Also, what pinion are you using with that motor? I currently have (2) 12T and (1) 13T. I would like a motor that would run well with those at least until they are worn out.

Seems I just solved my dilemma with ... drumroll... None of the above!

Just got off the phone with a Neu distributor and he had a 1506 1.5y which he stated was the same speed as 1509 1y. I've never seen a 1506 1.5y listed anywhere, but it was a decent price so I'm going to give it a shot. I'll post updates later!

I haven't looked around for any place to find them, so I'm not totally sure. However, there are some really inexpensive motors on Tower Hobbies that would run similarly:

The first one is closest, but the second would also be a good choice (geared appropriately, of course).

I'm using an 18t pinion with stock spur on my CRT.5, on 3s Lipo and 2.2 Truck Step Pin tires (~4"), which gives a top speed of roughly 40mph. IMO, this gearing is perfect for what's on the truck (nothing overheats).

That motor should work decently... Especially for a lightweight setup (although should work just fine in a regular weight).

Thanks for the info on the Ammo motors MetalMan. Those sure are cheap. I guess I'll have to start driving my crt.5 a lot to wear out my existing pinions before switching over the 5mm.

I've run accross their site before. They do list a lot of Fiegao motors, but never seem to have any in stock. They are also based out of Hong Kong. I'm not sure I want to deal with overseas shipping.
