VXL esc + 2600 ammo = ??? - 12.30.2007, 07:41 PM

how would a VXL-3s ESC(200A constant, 320A burst) with a maxamps 3s lipo and an ammo 36-56-2600 do in the revo? when tekno tested their kit, they used the mamba max esc with a neu motor rated for 2600kv, which is the same as the ammo. i know it wont be quite as large or have quite the power, but would it be enough for a backyard basher? it would be with the tekno conversion.

If you stick with the 2 speed and mech brakes you should be fine. Keep the top speed to around 35mph and that will help the load on the motor. I would gear it 17/38 with that motor, and get the rcm heat sink, it will help with the temps, and keep the motor together. Make sure that you keep an eye on the temps during the first few runs to see if the gearing will work.

actually the motor has bolted endbells so im nto owrried of that. i was going to run atleast one fan, possibly two. and teh vxl makes more power than a mamba max so i was thinking it would give me a little extra umph. it isnt an XL motor, but it is considered an L motor. i was planning on running 16/38 with the close internal ratio and 2 speed. i wasnt expecting speeds to be over 35-40

That gearing will give you around 30mph with the close ratio gearset. The vxl esc is not better then the MM. I have owned both and do not think the vxl esc is better. It has no pc programibility and runs warmer then the MM. It is also not as smooth either. The batteries will determine how much power you will have. The motor will draw as much as it can (till it overheats) that is why gearing correctly is important. If you can buy the mm I would suggest it over the vxl. I have 7 MM escs and have been very happy with them (pity the Mamba motors are not that good). You will have to run some sort of heatsink on the ammo motor, even a clip on heatsink will be better than nothing. A fan will help the esc, may not be necessary for the motor.

the mamba max only pushes 100A continuous. the vxl is 200. seems to me like it would be more power. but yes i was going to use a clip on heatisnk/fan piece. so standard gearing instead of the close? and go up a tooth or two on the clutch bell?

what kind of torque will i get out of it? and i understand that the mm is a better speed control. my problem is im doing this on a budget. the ammo will deffinetly stick. so with the 3s for right now. might end up with a mamba max later on though. but im curious to the acceleration ill get from it. i want to be able to do wheelies.

Well, considering the mm is 5-10 bucks more expensive than the vxl, it is no contest, the mm is much better! You should be happy with the power, wheelies should happen easily. Your budget should be able to handle the mm/ammo setup. What batteries are you going to use?

i already have a vxl speed control and a 5000 3s lipo from maxamps. i have a vxl rustler, and was planning on just switching the speed control back and forth between the trucks whenever i want to drive. atleast untill i can afford the mamba max speed control

Ahh, now I understand! If you already have the esc, go ahead and give it a try! That battery will be ok for the application. It can deliver 100amps and I doubt that the ammo with your intended gearing will be able to pull that much. Let us know how it works for you, and post up some pics. Do you have the tekno conversion yet? It is a very nice kit and works very well, I use my tekno revo more than any of my other rcs!

no i dont have it yet. im ordering it tomorrow most likely. and going to order the motor once my LHS opens back up since tower doesnt have them right now... yes my revo is by far my favorite truck to drive whenever it works. i just dont have luck with nitro, but electric and brushless works great for me everytime. so i figured. stronger, quicker, easier to maintain. well worth the money in my opinion. over time i am planning on making a kit to convert my terra crusher as well. run a feigao 10XL probly since its so big

The 10xl should work well for that application. You will definately like the brushless revo, it is a blast to drive. Mine has a quark/aveox combo on 5s 5000 maxamps lipo and it gets about 35-40 mins run time and is geared for 40mph.
