need suggestion - 12.21.2007, 05:54 PM

I have basically a stock e-maxx sept hybrid bulks and 1/8th diffs. Also has single speed conversion along with 3.3 conversion. I was thinking an xl motor with the mm but not sure on what size I should get. Will be running 12-14 cells depending on what you guys reccomend.

For 12-14 cells I would recommend the 8XL, especially if its a fairly light truck. Bear in mind newer MMs can only do 12cells or 4s maximum, and even then you need to run a UBEC like the CC item Mike sells.

Well what would you suggest for decent performance and isnt going to cost too much. I'm trying to keep the price below $300, but it can go over some.

For $300, thats pretty much your only choice. Better motors cost alot more, in the $150-$250 region, unless you can find something second hand. Esc wise, again, if you want to run a higher voltage, you will need to spend alot more- the Quark 125b (monsterpro) is about $225 I think, but will need the thermal mod done at some point in the future. if you can wait a couple months, the MMM will be released (hopefully), and that will be $300 or less for the esc, ubec and neu 1515 1y type motor, which is perfect for 12-14 cells, or 4-5s lipo. Hate to say it, but performance = $$$....

damn. that was well put suicide

i went with an 8xl on 14 cells and mm esc and the setup was just terrible (it was in a revo w/ ubec) it ALWAYS thermaled the esc. the motor stayed under 165 usually but after around 10 minutes i didnt want to push it anymore. my gearing was not perfect so that didnt help, but the setup will most likely run hot unless you can get a couple fans on there (i didnt have any)

very true, you get what you pay for... but even those XL motors have a sweet spot... my favourite XLs are the 12XL on 6 and 8S... seems to run fairly cool with the proper gearing... the MM and 4S and 8 or 9XL also works pretty good, I never had a problem with them.. except the old style XL where the can pops easily...
