Is this a good price for a revo roller for brushless conversion? - 01.09.2008, 07:18 PM

Well first i want to thank evryone in advance for and advice given. Ive been back into r/c for about 3 monthes now after a long time of and have a a tt01 dark impact and now a e-maxx 3905. I LOVE my 3905 and was thinking fo going brushless but ever since i got the 7 cell i think it flips over enuph ass is. Well i was talking to one of my friends today and he bought a Revo 3.3 and has played with it about 2-3 times and has not touched it since. i can buy it off of him for $150 with no motor or gas tank or 250-300 with. So my mane questions are . Is this a good deal for a mostly stock 3.3 roller? and 2. howmuch will my conversion to electric cost. since i was planning on eventually brushlessing the emaxx i figure if i can get a system i can swap between the 2 its even better. and yes its a relaiable source i KNOW for a fact the car has just been sitting for monthes
also wanted to mention i;m on a budget so while i dont want bad parts i also dont wana spend 300 on a motor and 250 i dont need 50 mph 38-40 would be fine since i just want some more speed than my new max but nothing crazy
thanks again hope i did not ramble to much in my first post

that's about as good a deal that you'll get on a revo roller as far as the conversion it depends on how much you fab yourself and or buy and what you use...i went the uber expensive route...ultimately sold it though...

if you bought this you'd be out about 500 with just the chassis alone

but if you use the stock chassis and make your own batt trays and fab a motor mount you could do it for little of nothing...also depends on bl setup...if you use say a novak it's not that bad @300, if you use a mamba max controller/and say a 10xl you're looking @10xl but then voltage amounts change...so really it just depends on you...however i am by far not the most knowledgeable in the subject...hopefully all the other guys can give you some input

Cheapest way to go if you're going LiPo/Brushless-

TrueRC 8000 4S2P pack-$140here
9XL or 8XL Feigao motor-$80 here
Mamba Max controller-$137here
Castle Creations BEC-$22here

Now, from this point there are 3 basic choices.

Direct drive with motor braking single speed only-
(Note, you will have to do this mod as described by BrianG to eliminate the 2-speed)
RC-Monster motor mount-$60here
A 5mm mod1 pinion-$12here
Some sort of battery tray, rx box, and esc mounting area-$0-$50

Direct drive with mechanical brakes single or 2 speed-
Same as above minus the tranny mod

Clutch drive single or 2 speed-
Tekno conversion kit-$150here
This may seem more expensive but it comes with a battery tray, ESC plate, rx box, and brake servo mount which you might buy for the above setups and the price will come out pretty close.

All these have their advantages and disadvantages so you'll have weigh them out and see what's right for you.
And if you want to go LiPo you will need a compatible charger and balancer.

I would personally get with the Tekno kit, minus there motor mount, using one of Mikes, leaving the 2 speed, 7 or 8XL, the TrueRC 4S pack Matthew mentioned, CC BEC, and the MM ESC.

Except you can get a feigao XL for 60 shipped and a MM for 115 shipped...

Don't forget an RCM motor heatsink...
