I went out to Lacerne Valley Lakebed with my buddies on Monday and stayed the night (got back this afternoon). Anyway, I brought my G2R and CRT .5 along and they were a blast to drive. They handled the bumpy terrain like champs. It seemed the CRT .5 was actually a little better since it was able to float over certain obstacles since it was lighter. Its tires were also much better suited to the surface. However, the G2R held its own despite having too much power and too little traction.
Turns out both vehicles are a little overpowered though. My G2R tore one of its Traxxas Response tires and sent a huge flap soaring in the air (I recovered it). It turned out it was the same piece that had torn before (I CA'd it back). turns out the CA bond wasn't strong enough.
The CRT .5 tore another wheel to shreds. The spin just started spinning in the wheel. I am now going to use 12mm (Aluminum) hex's and appropriate hex tires...I'm tired of shredding these things (second time its happened).
you say your sheared out the inside of a pin type drive wheel like associated use? if so the 12 mm hex will help alot, i had to switch to this on my ls10 after destroying a set of proline wheels (ripped out the insides of two and twisted another)
Sounds like a great trip. I always love bringing my rc trucks with me on vacations. Your hexes stripping scares me a little because I will be running 4s in the CRT.5... and I don't think it will be short on power what-so-ever. And I'd hate to end a bashing session with a stripped hex...
Sounds like a great trip! Some badlands or mulchers would probably be better suited for the environment but the important part is that you had a good time.
The CRT .5 is running rims where the drive pin keys straight into the rim. I plan to switch to a rim that utilizes a hex, so I can have aluminum hex hubs, as the pins will not tear through those and then the hexes can better distribute the power into the wheels.
Texas, the ground was dried clay/dirt, so it seems Holeshots would be the best. I had those on my CRT.5 and it hooked up very well. The Responses on my G2R did hold on decently well, but between the sheer power of the truck (and its weight), it didn't have the traction I wish it did. Badlands probably wouldn't have hooked up too much better - Mulchers probably wouldn't have hooked up at all. Some Holeshot MTRs would have been real nice though.
jnev, possibly some pictures. My friend brought his Digital SLR (Cannon Digital Rebel XT) and was snapping pictures all over. Not sure if he shot any of me driving. Good chance he did though. He has yet to process them and send them to me. At the very least I'll post up pictures of the camp and us launching model rockets (I know we have pictures of those).
