Good find, I wonder... it should since it's 2.4 ghz... cheap investment to gamble on though

I don't think it will. The Spektrum Air modules (such as that one) work on a dual band style system, where the signal is simultaneously transmitted and received over two separate frequencies, unlike the surface which is just 1.

not really a cheap alternative.

ive sold sr3000s for the same price.

EDIT just search around on ebay
