beginner driver

hey guys. i have been into rcs for a while now but i have never raced. only just bashed them in my free time. i was looking to start racing buggys at my local track. but i cant decided on a good buggy to get.

i work at hobbypeople and we do sell the rc8 but i have heard that once they get one good hard hit to the front stuff just starts to fall apart. we do sell the parts at my work so i can get a good price on everything.

there is alos the new sh z car that metalman was talking about in another thread.

what do you guys think a good beginners buggy would be.

If you have easiest access to RC8 and parts that would probably be your best bet.
I have heard mugens are tanks (they don't break), also heard good things about xrays. I have a kyosho, and the parts are expensive and have to be mail ordered (no one local sells kyosho).
Losi also get good reviews.
Go with what you can get easiest/for the best price as long as it is a good brand (some Ofnas, xray, mugen, losi, associated). If I am leaving a quality product out, I appologize.

How about the XT2? I know you guys sell all the parts for that buggy (and you should get them for ~50% off). The only real problem with it is that it weighs more than other buggies (this was essentially what happened when they improved the original X-T).

The Ofna Hyper buggies are also pretty damn durable. My Hyper 8 Pro doesn't really break. I think the only part I've ever broken on it was a front arm, but that was because I accidentally stuffed a tire into a pole at Revelation going 30+.

I would 2nd metalman on the hyper buggies. I have 2 hyper7s and a hyper8. Really like the hyper8, it is lightweight and handles well. Plus parts are cheap, and they seem very durable.

Are you going to run nitro or electric?

im going to run brushless and i was thinking about that new sh car. i found out that we should be getting one on weds.

i kinda thinking im going to get a crt5 and convert it to brushless.

The only bad thing about the CRT.5 is that it will be difficult to find a class to race in...

well at the track near my house the crt.5's race with the 2wd nitro cars. but i really dont care about racing that much. i just want learn how to dirve on a track. and if i get the crt i already have everything to make it run. just whould have to buy a motor mount.

but im also thinking about getting the new sh z car buggy and racing that.

From the races I went too this winter, The RC8s were on fire. Really something to watch. They appeared pretty durable once you have the service pack. I ran a mugen mBX5 conversion and it was highly durable no double. But I went with an RC8 since I really liked how they performed.

Kyosho are strong but parts can be expensive. Mugen have discontinuted the MBX5R as they are bringing out a new buggy soon (possible at the worlds in sept.) It is best that you look at a buggy that you can gets parts for very easy. AE & Losi make RTR verions which you could get and sell the nitro parts off and keep the radio gear etc.
