Lehner Motors in 1/8 Buggy

What series motor is best for 1/8 buggy?

- XXL
- 1930
- 1940
- 1950
On Lehner website they recommend either 1930 or 1940. I was maybe thinking of a 1940/7 (2239KV) and running it off 5S (or maybe 4S)

do you have your heart set on an LMT, with the exchange rate they work out pretty dear for us in Aus. i was considering one, but went with a Neu just because of the cost to performance ratio. my 2 cents

I run a 1930/8 and a 1940/7 in my buggy, both on 4s. The 1930 works great if geared below 40mph, but starts to heat up if geared up too much. The 1940 will take any gearing I throw at it (so far), but starts to cut down on run time.

I ran a 1950 on 4s in my buggy. It was fast but not fast enough, only because i was using a 8T motor & i really needed a lower turn motor for 4s. A lehner 1940 7T would be very good on 4s or a 1950 6T.

1940/7 is a killer buggy motor. Great track motor on 4s and on 5s its a riciculously powerfull bashing motor.


My $0.02...

I have both Neu and Lehner motors and they are both flat out awesome. They both do have pluses and minuses though.

Lehner

(+) 2 pole works with any esc, 36mm can is "standard", Runs cool and super powerful
(-) Hard to get in the USA and expensive, 3mm motor mount screw hols are not the strongest IMO as they can be stripped is your not carefull. Weak support.

Neu

(+) Easy to get in USA, Powerefull and cool running, great support
(-) 4 pole means some ESCs struggle with them, larger than normal diameter can diameter, holes in the front of the motor arent the best for dirt driving IMO.
