connecting tv and pc problems!!!!!!! - 05.10.2008, 03:42 AM

i finally bought the right cord i think.............. vga-vga.

my tv has a "PC" output which is vga and my monitor has an output that has 2 monitiors and it is also vga so i think im right...

i have the 8800gt video card so i am almost positive it can do it.

i went into its settingsto "multiple displaying" but my computer does not detect it. i tried to manually search for it but no luck.

anything im doing wrong..........

there is no "monitor" option on my control panel

also i tried going through the personalize option where you change your screen saver and all that junk but again nothing.

i have vista if that helps at all.

thanks for any help guys!

8800gt should have twin DVI ports, not VGA. Look on your TV for the DVI setting under output. After getting it all hooked up on my 8600gt I had to reboot before it would detect the TV.

Give that a shot ;).

reason I got vga is because my tv doesn't have dvi.

I may try nd get a male to female conversion today and hook up the tv to my tower instead of the monitor.

well on the back of the monitor there is a vga port and it has a picture next to it making it look like its for when you do multiple tvs.

so i have to hook the tv up to the tower?

Hooking the TV to the PC would be the ideal way to do it. Some monitors have a built in video switch. If yours does, there will be a switch on the monitor to switch to a second PC. That's more than likely what that port is on your monitor. At any rate, you'd never be able to access any of the video cards features for the secondary display if the primary monitor had a passthrough port (which I've never seen).

Try connecting the TV direct to the back of the PC. (make sure you switch the TV to the correct input for the VGA in).

Most likely your monitor has 1 DVI and 1 VGA port. These are both inputs, so that you can connect your PC to one or the other depending upon the type of video port your card has. The VGA port is not an output, so it will not send signal to your tv.

Once you get it hooked up to the PC you should be fine.
