flm rusty heat issues w/ pics - 05.25.2008, 02:48 PM

hey guys just recently i got this up and running and its having a little heat issues. specs are................... 5700
mm esc no ubec
2s2p a123 pack
86/20 gearing

i bought the illusions body for it but now im just waiting for all my airbrush equipment

after maybe 5-10 minutes the motor and esc hit around 140 and the batteries are warm.

should i change my gearing? or put a ubec on the esc? would 2s4p of these a123s make a difference?

thanks for any help!

So the packs are 2s2p each? 4600 6.6v packs? Are you running 2 packs, looks like it in the pic? How are the 2 packs wired together, in series or parallel?

i knew this would draw some confusion.

last week i strapped them both together for some 4s2p action (each pack is 2s2p)
the thing is INSANELY fast on this and it was fun as hell.
but that was just for S&G. now im running 2s2p... only connecting one of the batteries.. even though bought are strapped on. im just too lazy to take the other off.

edit. yes linc 6.6v each 4600 mah. if connecting both it would be 6.6v 9200.

What are you worried about? 140F is a decent temp, it is normal for those motors... although, you could gear it way down and connect that extra pack, it may or may not run cooler, and you would tons more power. When you run 2s2p, you should take off the extra dead weight of the second pack... not good for anything, less performance, lower runtime, more heat, just a waste. Try that.

i strapped the second battery on just for this last 2 runs (1 run with 4s2p and the run today with connecting just one of the batteries)

the reason i do not like these temps is because they will keep rising with me running it more.

i cannot finish the whole pack without everything overheating.

i may go just get a better suited motor and get a ubec. that should solve all the problems. =)

ill try gearing it down and see how that does.

As Zeropoint said 140 isnt bad at all for a mamba combo, but the weight of the 2nd pack probably isnt helping matters, those a123s are pretty heavy, id pop the extra weight off and gear a tooth or 2 down on the pinion..JMO

what surface are you running on? judging by the wheels it looks like sand..this might also be a factor

Yes, I forgot to mention the paddle tires, that really does suck alot of juice when running on sand, or any loose surface. UBEC will help also. What speed are you geared for? Because if you are geared for over 37-40mph with only 2s2p A123, you WILL have current problems, hence heat problems.

not really geared for any speed. just driving around in my backyard.

and with 2s2p i dont think its getting over 30.

also, the tires and the battery weight have no factor in this. i was running regular tires and just 1 battery and its the same thing.

another thing. 140 is not good after only a couple minutes. if i was getting a full run and it only hit 140 id be fine, but after 10 minutes or so it gets to 160. (not good for the combo)
