Waterproofing the MGM160/16 - 09.29.2005, 05:48 PM

I am very very tempted to buy one of these soon to replace my Mtroniks unit (16 cells vs 12 cells, 160 amps vs 100 amps). But I run my car everywhere, even if it involves water, espically since I went brushless since my Mtroniks controller is fully waterproof.

So I'm concerned when I get one of the new MGM's dirt and water are going to get in it (espically with winter coming up). Whats the best way to waterproof them? Anyone tried yet? I don't fancy the idea of pretty much an exposed circuit.

Also am I likely to hit any cogging issues? I'll be running it on as low as 4 cells for touring car racing, and all the way up to 16 cells in my Emaxx project (I know I will need a UBEC for this). So am I likely to get any problems running on low cell counts? And Mike if I order one from your site it will be the version that can "freewheel" for sure?

Thanks guys!

PS. Anyone have any pics of one from the side? Only seen top down views of it.

I am sure you have seen this thread :):
http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/s...d.php?t=203178 (you are b3racer there, right?). Read Bob Novak's comment.

I don't think the MGM controllers can go as low as 4cells. Even if it could, you should still use a RX pack, as 4.8v will drop, and so will the BEC voltage.

Aye I'm B3racer there (could never get my Rtsbasic account activated :( ). I have taken note of what Bob said, but I don't want to be the first to risk $260 of kit unless I absolutely have to. I know someone has to but sods law says I'd get it in the wrong place and mess the controller up somehow :)

Sucks to hear the MGM might not be able to go down to 4 cells, my Mtroniks unit will do it no problems so I taken it for granted any good sensorless controller would. Ah well, I'll just have to run brushed for the stock class.
