Pheonix HV-110 Question

I'm thinking about trying a HV-110 for a high voltage setup, but can someone tell me if it will need a pistix adapter to work in a truck?

Yes, the phoenix controllers require a pistix. If i recall they do not have brakes with out.

I am planning mechanical brakes no reverse. All I need is forward. Can I run it without the pistix?

I believe some people have been able to get it to "work" with adjusting end points - However Brian could never get it to work properly without the Pistix.

Sadly it seems that the Pistix arn't being made anymore and are difficult to find...

1) use a plane/heli RX/TX
2) try contacting patrick to see is they can use a car signal processor chip

That's not an option. Besides, I have a rail-gun setup that is triggered by anyone without at least 95% of my DNA. Powered via the mains with 10 hour battery backup. Ever see Edna Mode's lab security from the Incredibles? You get the idea.

And, I was able to get my setup to work without the Pistix, just not perfectly. Took setting the trims and EPAs, and even then I wasn't happy. The Pistix makes it MUCH easier.

Cool. How does the Pistix work exactly. Is ther any setup required ort do you jusr plug it in in line and it does the rest?

PiStix Instruction Sheet

The PiStix module is intended to allow use of standard aircraft-type ESCs with pistol-grip transmitters.
To install and set up your PiStix, plug the PiStix servo cable into the receiver in the throttle channel, and plug a
servo into the PiStix pins in the same color orientation as the cable (dark color is ground, lightest color is
signal). Using a receiver battery, power up the receiver. The servo will move all the way in one direction. Turn
on your transmitter. Adjust the trim so that a slight pull on the trigger causes the servo to start to move. If
pushing the brake causes the servo to move, you need to reverse the servo travel from your transmitter. Pushing
brake should have no effect! Adjust the throttle ATV if your transmitter is so equipped so that you get full
travel just before the trigger is fully pulled.
Next, disconnect the receiver battery and servo. Install the ESC. For safety purposes, it is strongly
recommended that you remove the prop. Power up the transmitter if it’s off, then power up the boat again.
Verify that your ESC arms and operates as expected.

Pretty simple really. Air radios go from 1ms to 2ms pulse width for the throttle. Pistol radios go from 1.5ms to 2ms pulse-widths for throttle (1ms to 1.5ms is for brake/reverse). The device translates the starting 1.5ms in a PG radio to 1ms pulses and shifts the pulse width to be linearly variable up to the 2ms max value.

The concept is simple. Programming and packaging is a tad more difficult. The device uses a PIC (programmable interrupt controller) which contains some actual code that does all the work. Since the signal wire is not even close to a high power signal, the circuit doesn't need any output buffers or anything, so it is all contained on that one IC.

We do not recommend using the Phoenix controllers in cars. The motor start up routine between the car and aircraft controllers are drastically different. We generally see burned up Phoenix's when using them in car applications. I would highly recommend waiting for the Mamba Monster Max. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Many of us have been very successful with the HV-110 in cars/trucks. I burned one out about a year ago, but the same thing would have burned out any car controller... donuts in the street in a ~14lb. extended Savage with 10s2p A123, KB-45 10XL, and geared for ~70mph top speed. The thing must have been pulling 150+amps.

jhautz, what radio are you using? I'm gonna see how well I can get my React and HV-110 to work together without a PiStix.
