Where is everyone? - 09.29.2008, 04:41 PM

Seems as though there are new members signing up every day, but looking at the "Who's online" shortcut page (under "Quick Links"), there never is any more than 100 users online at once, and that's including the bots and guests. Seems a shame: "Most users ever online was 284, 11.01.2006 at 12:30 PM".

Just idle curiosity...

I don't think Mike would be happy about this silliness either - The RC community is relatively tight. I know there are disagreements of opinion sensored / sensorless - HV vs LV - safety of Lipo vs NiMh etc however I've never seen bashing or flaming ever have a happy ending.

I actually understand and appreciate the the Traxxas forum - why? It is very tightly modded which means it is suitable / targeted at under 14's and hence gives somewhere for the newbies to go.

In due course when my 5 year old is a bit older I’d be happy for him to look at the traxxas forum – not so sure about some of the posts here – I enjoy them but not sure that are entirely kid friendly ;)

If the same thing that you are doing to the traxxas forum comes here it is not going to be good for any of us. What happened to Neil is annoying but he knew what was coming and kind of invited it - I suspect it might have been raining in Dartmouth (it does that a lot)...

This road has been taken before with Nitrokillers / Jason - I would suggest that people let it go...

Please can I point everyone to this... Neil I think is big enough to defend himself...

I'm not an RCM mod but I know Mike will be upset by this behaviour.

Well, I certainly have better things to do with my time than babysit this kind of nonsense on the forums. This thread went from innocent right into flat out innappropriate behavior. I left Brian's post that started the thread and a couple posts from Chris that reflect my thoughts accurately(thanks for chiming in, Chris).

Listen up. We are a pretty lax forum and we do allow some lattitude compared to some other forums, but DO NOT confuse my kindness with weakness. If people think they can jump from one forum with tight rules and come here to "do whatever they want", you will be sadly disappointed. I have banned many users - you just don't realize it because after I ban the user, I also ban their IP address and delete all their posts. Some of the crap that was discussed in this thread is plain unacceptable - anyone who participated may consider yourself warned.
While some other forums may be "G rated", please consider these forums perhaps "PG-13 rated" - we don't condone profanity or inapproriate content and if you are not smart enough to censor yourself in a public forum, you may get banned without ever knowing why - I reserve this right as the forum owner, and would like to encourage the moderators to step up when there is borderline material posted - we do have an "intermediate" forum area where I can make the ultimate decision on whether or not something is appropriate.

That 284 users online was actually a glitch, Brian. It happened for about a minute and went back down to 67 or so users the next minute(I was online when this happened). 75-100 online is pretty consistent with our typical traffic. Some "heavy hitters" come and go and the growth has been slow and steady for years, but we haven't really ever gone backwards in terms of site usage. When we lost the forums last year we lost some traffic but since the revival, we have seen steady growth in membership and traffic. Brushless is growing fast, but it is still a pretty small segment of the hobby. :)

lol, ok. Didn't make sense that the member base was increasing, yet the number never grew. Makes sense now.

Mike is "pulling weeds" to leave a good crop to flourish, lol.

Anyways to the amount of time spent here: mine is very low compared to other forums. I guess I get daily notice like many of them and any question that is posted is usually answered thoroughly or completey hashed over in detail. Many links/topics I do not even click to since I can't help out.

On the other hand (more common to me) is questions since I have only done 1 conversion and it isn't right yet. I haven't gotten much specific help with.

Probably due to this forum/products being such a narrow/specific part of the hobby. In the meantime I will think about what may increase traffic (if that's the goal)
