HELP!!!! my Sansa e250 2gig... HELP! please!

HELP!!!! my Sansa e250 2gig... HELP! please! - 10.13.2008, 02:53 AM

something is wrong! when i sync it up with my comp it's fine but when i go in the folders it has these folders im unable to delete and i get the info on them it says ther like 3 gig's eac, there is like 12 of them too OMG!!!!

and like when i turn it on and go to the music then go to all songs it says "bad track" then freezes up, so i have to wait till the batt dies to do any thing with it "GRRRRR" and yeah this has been going on 4 a while... and the comp says i have like 380 songs on it but the sansa says i have like 127


PLEASE HELP!!!!!! :g asp:

try to reformat it or reset it to factory settings.

when you try and delete the folder what does it say?

it says

Error Deleting Folder
& could not b deleted the device either stopped responding or has been disconnected

do uthink this is a virus?

they were all added the same day and ime somehow, but in 2061? lol

If you could find anything on it, try to re-flash the firmware on the mp3 player... custom, the same, or upgrading, doesn't matter... also, google rockbox, its custom mp3 player software, which has way more customization and flexibility than what you come with

EDIT: I found on the rockbox website instructions to recover your sansa, pretty much no matter how badly you screw it up... some of it may be a little hard to follow if you do not have alot of experience. Most likely following the Restoring your firmware under Recovery Mode should be all you need, and could be easily done with windows and your USB cord...

Nah, formatting it would be absolute last resort for me- unless you have all of your files backed up somewhere, then just do it. See if the disk utilities help at all, maybe even call the tech support people. It may be a corrupt MBR, or firmware since you're getting connection errors and can't actually play anything.

EDIT: Oops I though this was a HDD... Yeah MP3 player... of course you have the files backed up. I'd erase it and revert to the default settings, reload a few tracks to make sure it's OK.

What you can do depends on how the OS sees it.

You can run "chkdsk /f" from the command prompt to make sure the filesystem is still OK and doesn't have broken indexes or whatever.

Depending on the OS you are using, the system may have built a "System Volume Information" folder on it for the System Restore feature, which just creates system snapshots that allows you to revert back to a working point. This doesn't do much good on an external device, but can eat up a LOT of space for nothing. You could empty it if so (might be hidden) and/or disable this feature for that drive.

I wouldn't think so, but the device might also have write-caching enabled, which is not a good idea with removable media.

As said, reformatting would be the last option. Make sure you know what filesystem is currently on it (probably FAT32) and keep it that way.

Use whatever utility/software it comes with. May have to reset to default and start over. Hopefully you have valid backups of the media.

Well, if nothing is working, then it doesn't look good.

Just curious, I just now noticed it was a 2GB player. For some reason, I assumed it was a 250GB player - must have read the title wrong. So, how can you have a few folders with 3GB each?

This is probably flash-based (not hdd). If so, look for a reset button, or some reset procedure (look in manual). This is most likely the equivalent of reformatting, but it's not working right now anyway, so you're not losing much...

I am not familiar with this mp3 player but if it has [A] flash memory and the file system is formatted as [B] fat16, [C] you use windows media player or some other app to sync files and [D] you have lots of folders most likely you have exceeded the limits of the file system.

If running chkdsk as Brian suggested then you can try reformatting the drive

From a command prompt ( START > RUN type CMD click OK)
type format driveletter: /Q /X
With any luck you now have a clean drive and can reload your mp's.
