slash, bash slash, custom slash, pede......now what version? -
12.28.2008, 02:29 PM
Well ive been running the same electronic setup in my traxxas 2wd based veichle ever since i got the stock slash and i have tried ALOT of verisons and im looking to see whats next....... so far i used in all the versions (mm w/cc bec, 3s 5000 lipo, 9L w/rcm clamp, mod1 gearing (anywhere between 39-65mph, usually 45) and a flm tranny.
i have ran:
-stock slash (stock tires, body, and all)= fun on pavement, ok basher, doesnt jump worth a crap, way over powered to handle decent off road or on a loosed track.
-bash slash (stock chassis, Cut body, Badlands on off set wheels)= hard to handle on pavement, WAY better traction and rough handling, jumps better but not great, rear bumper not holding up and neither is the body. drives faster on the track but tippy in the corners.
-custom race slash (my extended chassis, holeshots and edges fit under the body, Hardcorr body, 1/8 shocks, rustler style servo setup)= EXCELLENT on track handling and traction, very very easy to drive and FAST, doesnt bash well due to the tiny tires and huge body, and it doesnt jump well for the same reason but jumps good enough on the track jumps because i usually roll most the larger ones and it stays low over the others.
-pede (old pede chassis, badlands, no body, 1/8 shocks)= fun basher, very hard to keep front end down, pretty tippy but still turns pretty good for the most part, i prefer the bellcrank setup over just the servo saver direct to the turnbuckles, ALOT better to jump, does flips easy, corrects easy also but the handling is lacking.
so im thinking maybe the stock rustler chassis is what im after for bashing and use my custom chassis for the slash racing. The rustler setup will have a nice small and much tougher body, better handling over the pede with the bellcrank setup and lower battery, but will keep the short wheelbase for flips and wheelies and better jumping......... plus itll ditch the big bumpers.
i plan on running the badlands with it, and bashing and playing, and doing HUGE jumps and flips. does anyone know the the slash bellcranks work with the rustler setup so all ill need is a rustler chassis (upper and lower) and then a battery strap and esc mount, jconcepts body, and rpm bumper........ do yall think this will do what im after or will i just be wasting $55 to try it....

ive already done it also .... the heavy tires was hell on my driveshafts and hubs. plus i sold the tires and adapters with my ls10, i prefer the badlands over them anyways.

Hmm, Ultimate Stampede? I was also thinking 4x4 slash/pede, though that requires another rear end and lots of custom made parts...

How about a Slato type http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...ighlight=slato I'm just waiting for some 30series badlands, and the snow to melt,to start bashing it again. But all the parts, except driveshafts, did fine with the big tires, and hard bashing.I'm expecting it to be pretty bullet proof with the Badlands. To me it's like a 1/8 scale Stadium truck.

build a pede chassis out of g10 and any other parts with g10, lexan, alum., and cf. put leds in the g10 to light up each entire part and go night bashing

ive done the pede version too and it was ALMOST what i was looking for for bashing except in the steering and slight tippyness with the badlands, so i can either buy a body for the pede version or try the rustler chassis with the lower battery and better steering setup (itd still jump and wheelie like the pede im sure but handle and turn better, plus stadium truck bodies last longer than pede bodies)........ i dunno
and when i break another stock driveshaft im gonna put my last spare in there and order some flm cvds and aluminum hubs for the back.....

well i check the part numbers and the bell cranks and stuff swap between the slash and rustler so i think i might go ahead and give it a go. may wait on the body though. then after i pick between it and the pede ill get a body.

^^^nope, do the wide pede mod (the RPM way) and grab an FLM 1" or 2" extended chassis. For the steering, check out the kimbrough (sp?) gas car/truck servo saver, it's a muffin-load better than the stocker...

i did want a longer wheelbase for playing ive tryed that way before and it really take aways form how well you can control it in the air and id rather keep a stock arm setup (so i can use the flm slash cvds and have easy to get parts) and just use wide hex up front and use front wheels all around like i already have. and i was using a kimbrough orange hd saver when using the pede chassis, the turnbuckles being farther in than the hingepins is the geometry problem with the steering, the stampede setup worked fine just didnt drive as good as the slash's steering setup did.
i guess ive figured otu what exactly im looking for after thinking more and more about it: short wheelbase (stock pede or rustler), my big badlands tires and offset wheels, a tough body, no big front and rear bumpers, good steering setup, goood handling and most of all a good jumper.
i think ill order the rustler chassis and atleast try it im thinking its what im looking for, if not ill still be looking for another route.
