RC Monster RC8 Conversion, few questions - 01.10.2009, 03:40 PM

For the RC Monster RC8 conversion is it possible to still use the kyosho 46T plastic spur gear on the center diff?

What is the lowest pinion size you can use on the RC Monster conversion?

How does weight balance compare on the RC Monster conversion to the RCPD conversion?

what gearing is everyone ending up with using the castle creations 2200Kv combo?

Is the battery tray lowered on the chassis (ie- chassis is milled under the tray?)

Cain, how are you? sorry no replies yet. let me try to answer some questions for you.

I dont know about the plastic spur but if it fits the stock RC8 then it will work. i dont know why you would want to do this though, especially if running the Castle 2200kv motor. it will rip that plastic spur to shreds in seconds.

i have the RCM RC8t conversion and it is very well balanced. i alway test this by balancing the vehicle and the RCM kit seems very well left to right and front to rear balanced. i am sure this could be said of all their kits.

the area under the battery tray is not milled. however, i dont know that you will find a kit (yet) that places the battery in the chassis. Tekno kits are milled beneath the battery but the tray still rests on top of the chassis. as far as i can tell they mill the chassis to allow the velcrow straps to go underneath. RCM mills the tray to allow the straps to slide under.

as for pinion size i would think you could safely go to at least a 10. i run a 13/46 setup on mine no problems.

as for gearing on the 2200kv setup the thing has so much torque you could probably run whatever gears you want and your ride will pop wheelies. use this RC calculator to determine your ideal setup.

13/46 gearing with the 2200kv produces speeds in the 45mph range. i ran 17/46 too without issues and got speeds in the 55mph range.

are you after torque or speed? a smaller pinion will give you torque, a larger one will give you more top-end speed.

currently i run the RCPD conversion using a 46T Plastic Kyosho spur and a Neu 1512 2.5D motor, 2050Kv. The ESC is a Mamba Monster, version 1 that still works great (knock on wood). I have had zero issues with the 46T spur being plastic, as have others who have used even more powerful motors than the Castle 2200kv motor. I have zero wear on my kyosho spur gear.

reason I would like to use the plastic kyosho spur gear is that I like the fact that it keeps the car much quieter than without it. You do of course have to slightly modify the gear to get it to work, but barely anything at all. you also need to run extra shims in the diff (all explained in the RCPD conversion).

thanks for the info. The conversion looks really good, and if I still with AE, could be an option for the RC8T combined with the CC combo powerplant.

i run 12/46t (plastic) and no issues, however i dont have the new chassis yet, but in the pics the brace is on the other side so gearing should be open to just about every possibility

and the chassis i am planning on it , a 1500kv 1512 3.5d set-up and 6s , just have to wait for my tax return, i have noticed that most 6s batterys are like 400 grams or less , so it will be much more balanced then the 4s set-ups when comparing motor to battery weight, and the batterys are better priced as well , Mikes new 2500 mah 6s batterys and conv. are on my list , and a motor as well

i think that all of RCM mounts will go down to a 12t pinion with a finned can motor

from what i have heard Mike races an rc8 now , so i am sure the chassis will be the BOMB
