Medusa Motors change for 36-50 and 36-60 series

I am working on a project where space is limited (nitro 4-tec conversion) and wanted a 36-50 or 36-60 Medusa motor where the wires exit the case like the 36-80 series does, as opposed to coming out the back. So, I emailed Medusa to see if a special motor could be made and this is what they sent:

Brain,

We have both of those motors available in the SE version.
In fact, all our motors will be switching to the SE style.
When you order, put in the comments that you only want the SE style motor.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Good to know, Brian. I guess I should eventually finish my 4 tec... Thinking it may get a feigao 15l and bk 9920. Run it on 5s lipo, HAHAHA.... Probably use the clutch thingy from tekno, as I have a spare hanging around.

Yes, I had heard that too. But despite that, they run very well from the three that I have.

I decided to run 3s on a 36-60-3100. That way, I can use some lipos I already have (have some Elite 3s 3300 30C packs). And I already locked the spur into second gear so I can use motor brakes and have reverse.

Y i'm happy with the 2 the 2x50mm 3.3k - Yet to try out the 60mm 2k in my buggy - Debating about using the medusa or the castle 2650...

I'll probably just go back to back and see which works best...

Yeah, the 50 and 60 series are good for the smaller stuff where a CC CM36 motor just won't cut it, and other motors get too hot. I used a 36-80 motor in my XT8 truggy simply because the CC2200 motor was too high a kv for me. If the CC1800 motors were out, I might have gotten that. But so far, the 36-80 has been working wonderfully. Maybe a smidge warmer than a comparable Neu, but around half the price.

I don't know if Medusa motors are wound by Feigao. I contacted Feigao a few times asking if they will ever do a 4 pole motor and they have always said they wouldn't do one. I know the company that makes the Lightflight RC motor which has shown good results in rcgroups. There are also some very good companies here in the US that can do all kinds of windings too.

Personally, I don't care if a group of monkeys winds the motor as long as it performs well and has a fairly low price. I tried one in my Slash and ran very well, so I have no problem using them in pretty much anything else if they fit the application. If you want the best, get a Neu or similar; but if the cost to performance ratio is more important, then Medusas are hard to beat. And the 1 year warranty is nice too.

I'd like to dispell the myth from BG that medusa only provide a 1yr warrantee.

It is clearly advertised as two years... At least I'm not the only one to make mistakes..



I love the motors too - globalization and cost pressured dictate so much of the supply chain now.

lol, I was just going by this information:

Warranty

All Medusa Research products carry a minimum one-year warranty (see specific product for actual warrenty length) from the date of sale. This warranty does not cover damage due to misuse, abuse, neglect, or incorrect wiring. Broken shafts, bent shafts and broken wires are not considered to be covered under warrenty.

So, I wonder what "minimum 1 year" means? And what does it cover? Usually, a true "defect" shows itself within a short amount of time of running. The only other items that I could think of is a cracked rotor magnet or the glue holding the stator to the case letting go. It's not like there is a lot to a motor.

They replaced my 36-60-3100V2 under warranty for out-of-spec threads in the motor mount holes. The shaft had also bent when the motor came loose but that was really just collateral damage as a result of the manufacturing defect. I sent the motor in for inspection on a Tuesday and got it back Thursday or Friday the following week so they were pretty quick about replacing it. I had also added a note to them to flat the shaft with the repaired or replaced motor. They soldered the CC Bullets I had on the damaged motor onto the new motor. As noted in my sig I'm running this motor on 4S geared to about 38 MPH in an E-Savage with buggy tires. I've run it at an estimated 45 MPH on the stock 5.5 inch tall monster truck tires and motor temps didn't increase..or maybe just barely...My Mamba Max ESC with CC BEC and 12V fan was getting hot on that run though, probably would have gotton too hot on a summer day. Awesome motor considering the size and price...just wish they would eleminate the vent holes and secure the endbell better for us surface folks.

It would be sweet in they put some small screws through the rear endbell. Can't wait to get mine back.
