Hobby Wing chargers -
03.23.2009, 12:07 PM
Need some advice. I need to get a new charger to charge 6s 5000MAH Zippy packs and dont have much cash left over so I am wondering what charger I could use from Hobby Wing that will work. If it needs a power supply which one as well. My current charger will only do 3s. Thanks for the help.

I just posted this over at RCTech:
I've heard nothing but good things about the iChargers being sold over at HobbyCity.
There are two models:
1010B, 10s, 300w, 10A
106B Plus, 6s, 250w, 10A
Both are multi-chemistry, the 1010B+ is obviously the more powerful model. But the thing to consider here is that both chargers have a really high wattage rating which means you can actually charge big high voltage packs at 1C whereas you won't be able to do that with a low wattage charger such as the accucel-6 or that Thunder Power listed above.
Here's a really long thread about both chargers over at RCGroups. As you can see from the thread the manufacturer/devs of the charger are very involved with the customer base and are regularly making changes to the firmware that have been suggested by the people in that thread.
I'm working on a 1/8 project that will use a 5000mah 6s pack, I'll probably spring for the 106B Plus charger.

Do you mean hobby city? If so the turnigy accucell 6 is a good charger. It only has a 50watt output so charging that 6s pack will take 2 hrs or so.
But for the price you cannot go wrong, you will need a 12v power supply.

The 106b looks to be a good alternative to a hyperion 610i. But after shipping costs I bought my 610i cheaper than the 106b...
I do like the 10s model with integral balancer, but at almost 200 bucks it is a bit steep...
They do look quality, I will read the link you posted, thanks for that. Always nice to have a good charger, I currently have a handfunl of hyperions, 2 610i ,a 1210i, 5i and a 6i ac/dc. Plus I keep various other chargers handy.

The 106BPlus is $109 for me plus $14.99 shipping. You must have got a hell of a deal on that 610i for it to work out to less than $124 shipped.
Interestingly it looks like RC-Monster has the old version of both of the chargers I posted for the same price as Hobby City. I wonder if he can get the updated models?

I'm about to get the 1010B+. I made a offer on Hobby City and they sent me a code to get it for $170. If you make em a offer on it, they'll do the same. Not sure if you can make a offer on the 106 though.

I'll have to look into this... I didn't realize you could make an offer like that.
Edit: After logging into HobbyCity I see the 1010B+ at $170 as well. I'm a Gold level member. So they must be giving out membership discounts to standard members when they get an offer...I should try shooting for the highest level member discount just for kicks.

Yea I think I read somewhere that platinum is the highest level. But I'm not sure what the % discount for platinum is.
For me (Gold), the 106BPlus is $109, and I think for a standard member it's $119.

Ya was thinking Hobby City. Thanks for the help. I have been looking at the Turnigy chargers. Was actually wondering about the Accucell-8 model. But I think I may go with the 106B+. For the extra little bit it seems to do a good job. Just need to figure out a power supply as I have no idea what would work best for this charger.
Thanks

I'm using a Pyramid PS12KX which is a 10A 13.8V supply. I can't remember where I got it but I think it was like $40, I'll try to find the vendor. To get the full 10A charge from the 106B+ in the higher voltage packs you'll need a more powerful supply though, I'd shoot for around 300W to be safe.

Ok, so something around the 300W range. Will start hunting around. Should be able to get one locally and not have to pay for the shipping. Just want to be able to charge at home before I take the truck out. When the batteries pooch I bring out the big dog (Baja)
Thanks guys.

Just because I said I'd find the retailer... supply This is where I got my power supply.
And if I could do it all again (which I will anyway because I'm an idiot) I would have got This. 30A, 13.8v, $59
