If you got to do your bl all over again -
07.16.2006, 01:52 AM
Before I get to deep into my conversion I would like to know what you would do differently if you did it again. I know sometimes, that extra 20 bucks made the decision easier at first but in the long run it cost more like 120. The origanl part (that ended up being junk)for 50. That's the first 50 and then the good part(that you had to buy anyways) for 70=120 total in the end:007: . Total wast of 50 dollars that could have gone to a stripper:004: instead. Either way it's giving your money away with nothing to show for it except fustration:mad: . At least a long shower will eventually take care of one of thoses situations:013:

It's much easier if you just say what you want to do as a conversion. Seems to me that you are looking for a bombproof truck.
Like your signature says.
One thing i would not have done; buy a schulze esc or batteries from BK.
With a BL setup you simple USE stuff, no way around it. you need to replace parts every now and then. just the normal wear and the abuse

I think if I had to do over. I wouldn't have wasted my money on 2 hv maxx setups.
I would also have bought better quality motors like lehners 19 series.
Peace!

Currently I have an E-maxx with aliminum bulkheads, ss suspension pins, RPM arms and skid plates,MIP cvds in the rear. IAlso have a spooler in the rear. I mostly run 7 cell 3300 nimh packs but also have 6 cell packsMost of these have been replacement parts from the first few months of getting my truck. I have a BK9920 controller and have been looking at getting a Feigao 8xl.I know that I will have to get steel idlers and a different clutch. The RR seams cheaper at first cause with the strobe you have to buy new pinions witch are not to cheap for the 5mm mod 1 espeacially if you haare trying to figure out the correct size to run. If the RR clutch will not hold up to the BL then it would have been a waste of money in the long run. I'm usaually not this cheap but I have not worked in 10 months from my stroke. Now I have to be on a pretty tight budget with my toys. The feigao's are cheaper but do they last. I'm not looking to race I just want to do some bashing knowing that some parts will break or wear out. As you can see from my setup I'm not afraid to drive/crash my truck. I've read that a lot of people end up with the quark 125b after trying out a different esc first. I just didn't want to make that same mistake. My 9920 was a gift, that's why I'm starting out with that one.

The feigao or wanderers are good motors.
They last pretty good. I like the 9xl in them.
The 8xl should be nice in your case. The 9920 should be ok as well.
I ran the rr slipper for a while before I found the strobe.
I find that a better spring like off a mgt works better with any slipper than the maxx one. If you don't have a ubec you may check on one.
Sorry to hear about health.
Peace!

I ran the RR setup for several years on my bl setup, before I just I finally switched to the strobe last week..... One thing you need to do is really crank it down, and you can use the strobe sprong with a RR also.... The Bl setup I run is the following...
1920/8 lehner
2095 micro controller
I run 12 cells in series, but he most I've ran is 16 cells and it ran and held up just fine..

Thanks everyone. It looks like I'm on the right track with my setup. CHC , I am planning on an UBEC. For 40 bucks it is worth not burning up a esc. Is the main reason for an UBEC to help keep the esc from getting to hot? My dad is running the 9920 with a 8 xl no ubec, just using the internal from BK. Motor will get up to 140-145 and the esc get 135 after 10-12 mins with 14 cells. He has only run it 3 or 4 times so far. He started off with 28/64 before he melted the stock slipper we've tried 28/66 (screaming fast)with the same heat and speeds. After reading through some of the old forums I bought him a 20t pinion The temps definatly went down at least 10 deg on the motor and esc but I can't remember the exact numbers. The run time was almost twice as long but the speed was cut in about half, with 12 cells, and new gearing Still faster than my twin 550's. I'm also planning on going to Deans connectors

I had a problem with shut down with out the ubec.
The internal bec would shut down and the esc was not that warm.
I think they recommend only 12 cells for it to operate on.
Peace!

I have no regrets on how i started out. The Novak is very easy to start with and dependable for beating till you get used to the power. I now have a ss5800 in my t4 and just got a mamba max 5700 for my t3 and from the looks of it, i won't be straying from mamba soon
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna
People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Serum,
Can you explain why you would not buy a Schulze? I'm looking at the 18.97KWF for Maxx's, the BK 9920 (an RC-Monster Favorite!), and the Quark 125b. I've heard of several people having trouble with the Quark and while the 9920 is reliable the Schulze has more features and perhaps smoother operation. Trouble is, it's hard to get a real consensus on what works best in the ESC department.

All the problems with Quarks were, a bad ESC (replaced for free), a bad motor, etc. The Schulze however, not so great. They are smooth, I'll give em that much, but there not reliable. Leroy is the only person I know what hasn't burned it up....And thats unusual for him . Anywho, Schulze has no customer service to speak of as well...Just look at Serums Hall of Shame...

It almost seems like there are no truely troublefree brushless esc's out there.
I want (but maybe can't have) a brushless esc that performs just like the Novak/Traxxas EVX (or any modern Novak ESC for that matter). I want reverse and good brakes to compliment the blinding acceleration and I want reliability. I'm using a pair of 6-cell GP3300's that I might upgrade to 7 or 8 cell packs and I would like to use the Feigao 8xl or 9xl (or the XLT-4).
Really not sure which way to go. I thought the Quark Monster 125b was sthe answer but I'm hearing some not so great things about it.
Basically............is there a brushless esc that performs similarly to the stock EVX but for a brushless application? :032:

WOW! That 18.97 really cooked! Does Mike stand behind the Quark if there is a failure?
How are the MG esc's he sells?
I did not think it would be so hard to pick! Maybe I should go back to brushed?
