CRT.5 is an awesome truck, very impressed with mine. Only RC-Monster part on mine is the motor mount though. Just a OFNA extended chassis, made a battery tray out of aluminum as well as a shelf on top of the center diff for the esc and rx. Running a Medusa 36-50-4800 and I have easily gotten 40MPH out of it on 2s Lipo.

The hyper st will be a better choice for bashing at the speeds you indicated. It will be more expensive to convert than the crt.5. No comparison to hyper st.

The full size Hyper would be a better choice for hardcore use vs. the crt.5, but I would take the crt.5 over the mini hyper st any day - especially with my chassis kit.

Love the hyper STe - AWESOME!! I've seen crt .5's and they don't keep up w/ this bad boy, expecially since all you need to do is spend 199 for the kit and drop in a motor, esc, and Rx.

crt .5 vs hyper mini - 04.27.2009, 01:39 AM

hey folks i have been running my RCM .5 against the st minnis for about six weeks and have been winning more than half the time and having a ball doing it.I think the longer wheel base and the bigger tires make the .5 easier to control in the air espesialy if you get a little out of shape. but with the stock width arms it isnt quite as stable into or out of a corner as the st looks but it can be well controled if your carfull and smooth with the gas {cant wait to get my arms kit installed} Ive been doing well with my .5 and i think its a better platform BUT my next prodject will be an ST minnie

Ok so either one will be durable and handle good. I think I'm going to go with the Hyper STe because it's cheaper and I keep hearing about how durable it's big brother is so hopefully the Hyper STe will be too. I'm trying to pick between a 3s or a 4s set-up...
Anyone know the dimensions of the Hyper STe battery box?

Check out my other post.. in this forum for the battery tray detail and other info.. PS I'm running my STe on 2s lipo.. I think 4s would be pretty insaine unless you have a SUPER low Kv motor, if you are racing you don't want it uncontrollable. I have the Medusa 50mm 4800kv and it's stick fast on 2s lipo, zero heat issues with a mamba max esc. Keep your system to 3s or less to keep costs down as well, no need for more iMO, up to you though :)

hyper or crt mini - 04.27.2009, 11:09 AM

dittos on the 3s set up. at my track 'ocrc raceway' they are running 2s on tenth scale esc's and 6.5 2s seems to be as much as you could possibly handle.im running 3s w/novak 7,5 hv and to be driveable i turn down the EPA bellow 80 %.My rcm .5 without the arm kit weighs 5lbs 13 oz and the 10th scale stuff worked but during bash sesions would run 190 very quickly plus i have all the ofna aluminum hopups and wile i rarely brake it weighs a tone so i went HV.if i could afford a NEU set up this probubly wouldnt be an issue but i cant and novak is just up the street. The hyper w/10th scale weighs 4lbs 5 oz or ther abouts so it takes less to push it .i do think a .5 in stock trim would wiegh up simalarly andwork quite well on a gtb

I zoom over grass and concrete with my CRT.5. I don't do crazy jumps with it, but it's hella fast. Latest setup includes hacker C50 6L(thanks LincPimp) and 5s A123. I'm amazed how well the crt.5 takes this setup.

Thanks for all of the help guys. I'm pretty sure I have decided on what Motor/Battery/ESC I'm going to use.

Battery

Zippy 5000mah 3S 25C $50

Motor

KD36-60 "L" 3500kv (I know it's not the best but for $30...)

ESC (Not so sure about this one since it needs to be at least 100A)

Hobby King Brushless Car ESC 100A w/ Reverse

Would I be better off with a "S" length motor over the "L"?

I might get a CRT.5 RTR since they are only a little bit more $$$ than the Pro and I would finally be able to give nitro a shot. And then when I wanted to I could get the RCM conversion. Or should I just stick with the Hyper STe?

crt vs hyper - 05.16.2009, 04:11 AM

let me start by saying i havent run a gas car since Nov 08. However i must say to me the best days ive had running gas are far better than my best days running electrics there just seems to be many fewer good days running gas than electric.Gas mills for me are sometimes very problumatic and if your tune is off just a bit they can be very hard to drive. As for .5 v hyper mini ,If you can aford both get both if not the hyper E is already out there and Jay is comeing out very soon with E .5 .Its ajust one of themdamn decisions you gotta make
