If you are trying to run the same speed either system will draw the same from the batteries. I would actually say the MMM/combo is more efficient than the vxl so it should be slightly easier on the batts.
Vehicle speed, tire weight and drag will determine the wattage requirements for the truck, if the motor efficiency is the same the amp draw from the lipos will be the same too.
The more demanding comment may refer to the fact that the MMM motor can produce more torque than the twin vxl setup.... So the systems may not be equal.
