whats the limit on batt cells? - 05.08.2009, 12:46 AM

im still using 2 of 6cell nimh packs 4600mah on my savage.i want to buy the 7pack or maybe more and run 2 of the 5000mah 7cells.will that be ok with the quark125 and 8xl motor?i cant afford to buy li-po batts/charger so its not an option..any suggestions?
what will be the difference between the 6cell 5000mah and 7cell 5000mah?more power or more run time?

you can get good 4000mah 25c 2s hardcase lipo packs for about $27 each. and there is a very accurate charger for $37. go to hobbycity.com

They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

The 7-cell pack will give you slightly better performance if you use a smaller pinion to compensate for the higher voltage. If you have to BUY the 7-cell pack, don't bother. Save your money for the LiPos!

Agreed^^^

Keep your 6C until you can afford some Lipos. Well worth the cost. Once you go to Lipo, you'll never go back.

The 8xl should be awakened on 4-5s. 6s is a No-no because of the high RPM's. motor is not made for that.

I thought it was once you go black you never go back, better get Ben in here to clarify this...

The quark is really only good to 5s lipo. Running 6s is a bit sketchy, you may have a meltdown! An 8xl is a good 4-5s motor. I would go for the hobby city hardcase lipos, they are nearly impossible to damage due to the hard case:

Since you have the triton, all you need will be a balancer, get the equinox balancer, it will come with the correct wiring to plug into the harness that comes with those hardcase lipos:

yes, you will need an external balancer for that charger though.

i have had good experience with hobbycity and i will be buying more from them soon.

badboy2, for your current setup, this is what you should get:

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s..._15C_Lipo_Pack
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s..._15C_Lipo_Pack

those batteries say they are rated for 15c-20c, but they are mislabled from the factory and are just rebadged flightmax 20c-30c lipos. for $30 and $20, you can't go wrong.

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...lancer/Charger

that charger is the one i have and it is very accurate and is amazing for the low price.

i was looking around in the hobbyking forums and one of the admins stated that that the packs are mislabled and are indeed 20c constant, 30c burst packs. they will be more than enough for your feigao.

the charger has a very good balancer in it and you do not need an external one.

yes, you can cut off the plug and solder some deans plugs on them. that's what i did with my zippy flightmax packs.

it will take about an hour for a full charge on the 2s and about 70-80 mins for a full charge on the 3s pack.

you can either get 2 of the 2s packs, or you can get more power and speed by getting 1 2s pack and 1 3s pack.

so u can run the 2s and 3s at the same time as long as theyre the same mah?the flightmax are sold out.so the turnigy ones are the option.but wouldnt that be a problem (15c vs 20c) when u charge them ?do uactually have a setting for the C count or it dont matter?

you can choose the amp rating for charging. 1c would be 5 amps for a 5000mah pack. the 3s pack will only charge at about 4.4 amps because of the charger's watt rating, but it will still charge up pretty quick.

for example, i like to charge my lipos at 4amps and my ni-mh batteries at 2.5amps. the amp rate on the charger goes by .1amp increments.

make sure you plug in both plugs on the battery into the charger. also make sure you choose the lipo balance setting or the fast charge setting. in the fast charge setting, it will charge at the same rate, but it will save about 15-20mins by not trying to squeeze those last few hundred mah into the pack. i always use the balance mode as it only takes about 50-60mins for a charge for me, or about 70mins if i drain the pack down to the low voltage cutoff.

if your esc doesn't have a low voltage cutoff build in, i recommend you get one.
