Motor play? - 06.30.2009, 10:41 PM

Hey everybody,

So, I was replacing a spur gear today and noticed that the shaft on my motor (MMM 2200kv) had about 1mm of play (along the shaft length). I also noticed that there was a fine coating of red dust layered close the the pinion location, on the motor plate and motor. Is this normal wear and tear? Should I be concerned about the shaft play?

This is on a e-revo, btw. I had stripped my spur gear previously (too tight of a slipper I believe)

Thanks for the help!

the push/pull play is fine. did you use locktite on your pinion? i dont know where the dust would be coming from..

Yes, I loctited my pinion. I am not sure about the dust either. It's more of a burgandy than a red, but still nothing like what I run in.

lol, I get purple dust on my CC 4600 motor. I too wondered where it came from. I just figured it was the purple dust fairy.

It was the only logical thing I could come up with.

Seriously, it's probably some excess rotor glue or something. It'e been running like that forever, so I'm not worried. I plan to get a Medusa soon instead anyway...

I have a 2-3mm for and aft play on my CC 2200KV motor but was told by Patrick (Castle Prez) to not worry about it. I just keep on running it until it dies. I posted a video wherein you can see the play on the rotor.
