mini ste shock setup - 11.29.2009, 10:45 AM

I'm currently have my ste setup with e-maxx shocks in the rear and the rear stock shocks in the front. I've tried the jato shocks in the front, but I don't really like these. Now I was wondering in buying the slash big bore aluminum shocks and mounting these on the truck. I'll also be getting mike's 17mm adapters and running 1/8 buggy wheels.

Any thoughts on the slash shock kit for the mini ste?

Get some losi 8ight front shocks with the losi stand off's easy mod and by far the best rear shock, they make the traxxas shocks look like walmart brand shocks. I have found the stock front shocks are the best shocks to stick with... I too tried others, but nothing worked as well for a reasonable price.

Thanks, I've seen your mod. I see those shocks go for aroud $30 on ebay if they are new. I don't race the truck, just bashing, mostly as fast as possible on rough terrain. Would the front stockers with the 8t's in the rear be up to this with buggy wheels on the truck?

If they can take my beating at the track w/ 1/10 tires installed, I'm sure they will be fine w/ buggy wheels.. in fact the new hyper sc 10 pro basically is setup that way and does it. The nice thing about the sc10pro is that many of the parts are just mini STe parts, but w/ the different shock towers I can run 8ight shocks both front and back on the hyper SC 10 pro ;)

Well, there's a few 8ight shocks on ebay but they're not going cheap and I didn't have the patience to wait for a good deal so I went with a pair of new hyper 9 front shocks. Hope they fit....

You will need the hyper 9 stand off's if you didn't get them as part of the deal... they wont fit on the stock stand off's. I'm not sure about the size on the hpyer 9's, but if they are similar to the 8ight shocks you'll be fine. Good luck.. toss up some pics when your done.

I was wondering about the standoffs. I thought I'd see if they fit when I get them, and order the hyper 9 standoffs if they don't. Did you try yourself?

It'll be a while before I can take pics. The shocks have to travel to Europe first...

Nope, just assuming - pretty much always a difference btw the 1/8 scale parts and the 1/10 parts. It may slide over them, but they don't stand far enough away at least w/ my 8ight shocks that was the case. If they are the same size or bigger than the eight shocks, get the standoffs now, less waiting later :)

Received my shocks earlier than expected. The hyper 9 pro front shocks are an almost direct replacement... I can use the stock ste standoffs with these shocks. Can't use the stock ste balls for the rod ends and the balls that come with the hyper 9 shocks need a very slight dremelling of the lower arms (<1mm). It's a 5 second adjustment to the lower suspension arms for some extra clearance.

These hyper 9 pro shocks have a 17mm outer diameter shock body.

nope, they're too big for the front. I have some revo gtr shocks which I'm going to install in the front, probably with jato springs.
