Electric Motorcycles? - 07.13.2010, 02:53 PM

With all the talk of e-bikes and e-cars, I was wondering if there were full-size production electric street bikes. Turns out there are a few:

And then, there's a site for building your own, as well as some reviews of off-the-shelf cycles: http://www.buildelectricmotorcycle.com/

I was rather surprised that most used relatively low voltages (~50-70v). Lol, some of us use voltages around that in scale vehicles!

I think it would be sweet to have a Harley using the Tesla motor. Something like 50s-100s lipo @ 20Ah should be more than adequate for very long distances and/or crazy power.

Anyway, just thought it was neat...

Something I have found interesting too is that Best Buy is now selling electric bikes and scooters in many of their stores.

I have seen some electric bikes that claim 85 mph top speed and somewhere around 1-2 hours run time. That would be pretty cool if you ask me. I think the electric vehicle market could benefit from smaller electric cruisers. Something designed for 1-2 people for commuting purposes I bet could be pretty popular. Safety in today's world is probably the most limiting factor.

I always thought the PM concept from Toyota was pretty cool.
