Glitching? Shutting Off? Reciver.

ok my reciver in my MBX5R-E is shutting off and glitching out. What could cause this? I hit the thottle on my radio and it shuts off. when i try to hit the thottle and turn it glitches and shuts off. I am running a Spektrum SR300. my ESC is a hobbywing 80A ESC w/ 2250 motor. I am running a 2s orion lipo. I dont know whats going on? so i need help to fix this problem.

Sounds like its 'browning out'- lack of power to the rx when you hit the throttle causes it to turn off momentarily. One solution is a glitch-buster capacitor, though it doesnt work- depends how power-hungry the servo is & how well the lipos hold their voltage under load. Another option is to use an external BEC to power the rx and servo ( weak BEC circuit on the esc is the usual issue- fairly common with the MMPro ).

I have that installed on the ESC. But it is in a weird wire set up since i am not a good solder. I used castle 6.5mm bullet leads. i solder the two wires for the capacitor and ESC and then solder them into the bullet lead. Then i used a deans pig tail to add bullets on its end. Then connected them together and heat shrinked them so they dont come apart.

The servo i am using is a TowerPro 955

and where would i find a glitch-buster capacitor that plugs into the rx?

You need one for the rx- the capacitor mod for the esc is more to do with smoothing out current draw & reducing ripple current vs providing extra power. Towerpro servos arent all that great though, luck of the draw if you get a good one or not.

Just plugs into a spare slot ( aux/batt usually ). It isnt guaranteed to work though, but its usually a good start.

Off topic...are you running a 2s li-po to power the whole car? if it is it isn't enough...the buggy weighs 6-8 lbs. A better set up would be running a 4s w/that motor for much better power and efficiency

I have a mbx-5 that I ran on 5s with a 1900kv motor and it was perfect. I have since converted it over to a road car and still run it on 5s

i agree with you i was planning on getting a 3s lipo or a 4s lipo. Hard to find a good cheap lipo if you know i mean. was looking to spend around 100$ on a lipo. was thinking of getting this:

i know the towerpro is a good servo cuz i ran it before when i had it set up to run x2 2s lipos. It seemed fine.

So that Spektrum Voltage Protector will give me the power i need to run a 2s for now intil i can afford a 3s or 4s lipo?

Good cheap lipos? Where have you been for the last 2-3 years man?

You can get a 5s 5000mah 30-40c lipo for about $100 there. Occasionally you might get a weak or dead cell in a pack, but if you're only bashing then you could pickup 2 or 3 packs for the price of some 'branded' pack, and get the same or better performance..

The glitchbuster/ voltage protector cap doesnt give you extra power, it merely smooths out the power delivery and helps to prevent it bottoming out when the servo is really workign hard or the main pack voltage is sagging under acceleration- its an electrical buffer tank in essence. It wont neccesarily help in this instance because the input voltage is so low- if you have that motor geared for any kind of speed it will suck the life out of the lipo due to the high load and low overall power in the system ( power > watts = volts x amps- low voltage means high current draw, and that means higher temps and voltage droop )...

does hobby king have any hard case lipos and mostly looking for 4s lipo since i will be racing it/bashing it. I can't really trust soft case lipos since i do some really hard bashing and have the lipo get damaged and watch my buggy go up in flames so yeah

See for yourself- they have hardcase and softcase designs in anything from 15c to 50c ratings- takes a while to navigate through all the pages, but its worth spending a bit of time looking at the site yourself to get acquainted. If you buy from them, use the EMS shipping option for fast shipping, otherwise its like 3-4 weeks for delivery.

ask and you shall receive

that lipo should do just fine in your buggy. it is a hardcase and is dirt cheap. i was thinking about buying a pair of them for my onfa buggy.
