1717 Rotor is only 1mm bigger then BigMaxximum! - 01.07.2012, 02:28 AM

I was adding some data to my motor spreadsheet and I noticed something under my 4 pole motor collection. The 1717 rotor is 1mm bigger in diameter and 1mm longer in length then the Plettenberg BigMaxximum. This is the actual magnet dimension and not with the end caps. So for all you 1717 motor owners....you got a True Monster motor. Ok that is old news, but I bet you feel better now. Especially when most got them for so cheap.

The difference is that the Pletty rotor is drilled balance, whereas the Castle uses the cheaper putty stuff. Also the Castle uses 4 magnets, whereas the Pletty uses 12 magnets.

That's interesting, I wondered in some ways how castles motors compared

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Just need something to strap it into.

I've got two, both were aircraft versions with the holes in 'em. Come to think of it, I wonder if I can do a dual 1717 5ive-T.. Hmm...

Isn't the 1717 able to pull like a thousand more watts than the pletty? I first thought it would be due the additional can size and mass allowing greater cooling, but the pletty has a fan.

Does 1mm make that much difference?

I thought when the MMM came out people were burning up bigmaxximums on 6s?

It is still by far the sexiest motor in r/c. I know a thing or two about sexy- Linc taught me.

The motors do seem pretty closely related in size and spec, but how do they compare as far as overall power rating?

The big blue is the sexiest motor in our hobby for sure. It looks like it was made for the UE Lightning don't you think?

As for what you learned from James I believe it was petifillia, or maybe redncek foreplay, but sexy I doubt that.

Maybe it is the size of the wires they used.
Just a thought.
They don't seem very big in the pic there.

The 1717 has way more copper compared to the BigMaxx. But with the fan I feel they can be the same in power output. I had 3 Pletty's at one point and none like timing much. I blew a Pletty on 4s during a powerslide session on 4s. Motor became too unloaded at that point the magnets just went poof.

The BigMax Pletty has tons of torque, more then the 1515 motors that I have. It also spools up quickly. The 1515 2200kv Castle motor has a rotor size of 19mm x 35.63mm(without the endcaps).
