5" Longer Chassis Savage Project. - 12.26.2006, 03:11 PM

Hello everyone. I have been bouncing through a few different sites through the holidays, and now I have found this one.

I am an owner of a few R/C's namely T-Maxx and Savage. All nitro. Not being a very good 'tuner', I now am changing directions.

I have two projects in mind. First off the Savage. I recently bought the 5" extended Savage chassis of Ebay as a starting point. Done.

Now it's the motor combo that i cannot figure out. What do I want?
Maybe Brushed... Maybe Brushless.

The truck I figure will weigh about 16-17lbs when done. Just simply basing this on passed posts I have read.

The Savage will be all stock plastic. I have seen the 'longer' FLM A-Arms, as well as KD Aluminum A-Arms ( heading in that direction)

Are there any brushed options on this site, or is all brushless? It really seems that it would be the best way to go, but I have to ask?

What other brushed options are available to me.

Here is why;
My vision of the truck? My intended use? Use it 10-12 times a year. Have the 'look' of a 1/5 scale truck, w/o the high cost.

Does the size and weight of the truck change the motor size. I am going to throw out the Fiegao 8XL or 7XL as a beginning choice, given again the past posts, seems to be a popular choice.

The 9920 as a controller, or the 12020, seeing as it more suited for it. ( Info from another site).

One major question is how does the transmission get connected? A newbie question for sure, but I just do not see it.

Thank you

You could go with a stock E-maxx EVX & Dual Titans. You could visit Kershaw Designs and do a dual EVX w/Graupner Motors for serious brushed power.

I suggest (as will most here) that you go brushless. Your heavy truck will require a high amperage capable ESC like the 12020, Quark Monster 125, or MGM 160, an XL motor (or Lehner 1450, Neu 1515) and high quality NIMH (like IB4200) or Li-Po batteries.

Supermaxx-Racer-X, VBS, FLM chassis & Transcase, HSR Motorsports Slipper, Cage, MMM ESC, NEU1515. REVO 3.3, BL X1-CRT, CRT, BL-CRT.5, Procharged '92 Mustang visit www.chitownrc.com and www.rcbros.com

What kind of speeds are you going to go for?
Are you going to run big tires to match to truck?
I would suggest lipo for weight savings.
Motor and esc I would go brushless.
Welcome to the forum as well.

Peace!

Thanks so far for the posts.

As far as speeds go, I would like to think that stock E-Maxx speeds would be suffice. 27-30mph.

The tires will be the Big Joes minimum, and probably either CEN Genesis, or HPI's 7.7 tire, to match more to the scale.

I have been on KD's website, alot over the few days off, almost by heart.

They are the only 'brushed' motors that I could find, and then lots of brushless, there and here too.

I would like to stay away from Lipo, just purely on the amount of driving, oh and $$$ too.

You could accomlish these speeds on a 7xl with 12 cells. Id reccomend the 9920 or 12020, but if you like to be safe, get the 12020.

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL
