I'm blowing all the dust off my 9920/7XL Twin Force and I am going to rewire it all.

From what I remember, it had radio problems, and I think it was because of my UBEC I had in it..

SO, do people actually use these UBECs? or does everyone seem to have problems with them? Am I better off just using a receiver pack?

I use the UBEC in my BL Revo with absolutely no glitching whatsoever. I did install a 1000uF capacitor in the aux slot in the Rx to help filter any noise on the power line though, and I'm using a Spektrum DX3. It also helps to keep the Rx away from the motor wires. I also wouldn't install the UBEC right on/next to the Rx just in case the UBEC emits a little noise (even though the specs say it doesn't emit appreciable noise).

I heard a lot about burned/melted UBEC.
Personally I prefer MedusaProducts Potencia BECs (they are also coming out with a 6A
version).

I use it on electric helis, my monster, and some times ago on my touring and on my losi
buggy. I never experienced problems with Potencia BECs. And first over all, I think they
are really more reliable than the UBEC ones.

I'm saying this also for its capacity to keep quite costant the tension when the current draw
is jumping a lot.

I've owned a few UBEC's. I've never experienced any problems with them. You could try a reciever pack to see if the UBEC is the problem. Is your antenna mounted to an aluminum chassis or next to any wires?

good point.....I've never fried a UBEC, but make sure the antenna is away from it as well...and make sure it isn't attached to a metal chassis....other than that you should be good....Ebay has some for about $15.00 and mike has some on here I think for about $30.00 as well...not sure

I'm using a plastic antenna mount on alumnium chassis would that be enough isolation?

I have no problems with my UBEC. I have it inside a small plastic project box to protect it from the elements and my RX is a spektrum sr3000. They are within 2.5 inches of each other. No glitching whatsoever.

I blew up my UBEC but it was becasue I shorted the batteries against the chassis not because the UBEC was at fault. I replaced it and I haven't had a problem since. At least with that. I have other problems. :007:

My Ubec is several mm away from everything else...& I have no issues as well...

...i guees this gets asked alot and I am sure there is a FAQ or a sticky that you will all direct me to but what is a UBEC and what des it do? Should I have one? Does it come in pretty colours? :040:

BEC=Battery Eliminator Circuit. The U in UBEC stands for Ultimate IIRC.

It's just a voltage regulator that turns the main battery voltage into a lower voltage (5v or 6v typically) that your receiver and servos can handle. Without this regulator, you'd have to use a seperate 4 or 5 cell battery pack, which adds weight and something else to charge.
