Onroad cars aren't so bad... -
12.12.2006, 11:46 PM
Especially when they cost you only $35!
Most of you probably aren't aware that Team Associated is moving from Costa Mesa to Lake Forest (both in Southern California). It's location in Costa Mesa is only about 10-15mins from my house, and the Saturday before last they were holding a "garage sale." They had their own cars, as well as other companies' cars for sale, for SUPER cheap prices.
So anyways, I was the first person in the building when they opened at 9am sharp. I was amazed that they could be selling these cars/trucks for so cheap! Just to give an idea, here's some of the stuff they had:
-2 stock T-Maxxs for $30 each
-upgraded (nice) T-Maxx for $75
-almost complete nitro TC3 kits for $10
-old T3 and B3 rollers for $5
-TC4 (almost complete) for $5
-complete (besides radio) new-looking MT2 for $40
-bodies of any flavor for $5
-shock oil for $1 a bottle
And they had lots more, from tires to motors to brushed ESCs, etc.
So I got the one and only TC4 roller they had, along with a brand new body for $10. All I had to put into the TC4 to get it rolling was $27, and then I had to pay $8 more for wheels to put ABS pipe on (drifting). Everything else, including ESC, motor, receiver, battery, etc. I already had (borrowed from other cars), so this was my cheapest car yet. It's a winner, too! It runs very well without me adjusting anything, and it even came with a servo. Unfortunately, the tires are almost bald now (after 5 or 6 packs, with each pack lasting ~20mins). Here's the setup:
-Mamba Max 5700 motor
-MGM Compro 12012 (Mamba Max is on its way back from repair)
-Novak XXL receiver with MX-3 transmitter
-Maxamps 2s 6000mah (older 10C one) and True RC 2s 6400mah LiPo packs
-6v 1100mah RX pack (the BEC chip in the 12012 is toast)
-24/72 gearing
This setup runs cool, with the hottest temp measured being 135 deg. F, which was the motor. The ESC runs at about 90 deg. F, and the batteries at 80 deg. F. At 35mph (theoretical and estimated), it is definitely fast, yet also has room for an increase in speed.
Later on I have an idea to make this car into a straight-line speed car (I've got a car for everything else). I could put my Feigao 8L into it and run it on 4s Lipo for blazing-fast speeds. Pics will come soon.

It was that one day only. And, out of all of the 20 or so cars they had, all were gone about 45mins after the sale opened (it was supposed to open at 10am).
Forgot to mention that I also picked up the only HPI MT2 there, for $40. It looked brand new, and the body wasn't even painted. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if it's the SS or the regular one, but my guess is it is the SS because it has the unpainted body and the pin-type tires (the RTR one comes with a painted body and HPI Geolander tires). The reason why I don't know the answer to this is because I bought it with my parents' money, so that it would be a Christmas present from them to me. That means that I won't get it for 13 more days :(.

You really should have picked up everything and then posted it here! Even with a modest markup, it would still have been a great deal for others while making a couple bucks for your inconvenience.

Thats what I was thinking Brian...or you could put it on ebay and probably make at least a grand...
Wow...that is one heck of a spankin' deal. I've always wanted a TC4...I would have driven down there to pick that up...especially for 10 bucks. Probably could have gotten myself an 18T too...

Yea... I'm surprised that someone didn't just walk in and buy the whole lot and then go and have a giant Ebay sale! With the money you could have made off of that you could have funded the RC habit for quite a while. :dft012:
I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

The money I brought with me was my parents' money, since I had no cash of my own. Otherwise, I would have bought at least the 2 T-Maxxs that were there, and sold them for a nice profit.

Yep, those TC4's run nice with the mamba. My buddy has a TC4 with the 7700 in it. I might have posted the link to the vid, but if not, look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FECvEHnydQg
It's really an amazingly good performing car with all that power in it. I would have thought it would have been more of a handful to control, but it's a hoot to drive.

How did you find out about the sale Metal? I would have gone as well. Don't need any more cars or trucks but could always use some spare parts. Ok, maybe one more car, but that's it.

The manager at the Hobby People I work at told us about it, and Associated had an announcement on their website.
I suppose you guys might want me to take some pics as proof :024:.
Johnny, you have any interest in seeing the TC4 and my other cars? :027:
