RPM Revo axle carriers any good?

RPM Revo axle carriers any good? - 09.17.2007, 12:34 PM

I had an accident with my Revo by running into a large flower pot and snapped the front left arm in two, and it damaged the axle carrier as well.

So I am going to get RPM arms for front, but I was wondering if I should get the RPM carriers, or just replace with traxxas ones?

If you don't have trouble with the stock carriers, I would stick with those. However, if you drive aggressively and like to slide around corners, the stock ones don't hold up too well (for me anyway). The RPM ones work very well but are quite expensive. The only issue I had with the RPM version was threading the pillowball covers in.

Yeah, the crash did rip out the carrier, so I am going to have to replace it anyhow. Cost isn't that important for me, as long as it will be more durable (which is what matters for me). They have bigger bearings as well, which is only a good thing, so maybe I will get them.

Or is there an aluminum kit you can buy from tower hobbies that any knows is good?

I know there is an alu set that many of the racers on the TRX forum use. RD Logics? tho i think its some other "R" name. Search it there maybe.

The only complaint I remem about the RPM ones it the tendency of the pillow balls to rip out of the plastic, thus many racers use alu in the fronts. I having had any probs w/ the stock size bearings in mine, my Emaxx ones used to grenade fairly quickly tho.

My electric revo is approaching three years old (counting the year and three months it was Nitro) and still on the origional knuckles and bearings. I have hit everything with them pots, trees, mailboxes and one time a real car tire at more than 30 MPH, all i have bent or broken were pushrods or front arms

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

FWIW, I only destroyed one carrier this wkend @ the bash, and I really, really beat up my poor Revo w/ some very bad landings & wrecks (vid later will show :) ) and it was already half popped out from another wreck when I showed up. Its only the second I popped in teh year I've driven my Revo.

The stock ones are inexpensive and pretty tough. I'd only consider going aftermarket if you are a hardcore racer, or really have probs in your bashing.

Thanks for the input, but I just went and ordered the stuff I need:

RPM arms all around, and RPM carriers for front.

BTW, if you are wondering, I hit the flower pot going roughly 15mph, maybe faster, I was sitting on my deck and the post that comes down from the over-hang was sitting right in front of the flower pot, so it was a blind spot... LOL, it was funny seeing the truck stop for 'no apparent reason', haha.... it was so stupid.

I posed the same questions to the folks at Tekno RC after experiencing the same pivot ball problem. Their advice was to stick with the stockers as the RPMs are prone to the same problem. You can upgrade to the RD Racing aluminum carriers but they are quite pricey.

They also suggested to check for slop by making sure that the pivot ball caps are tightened correctly. I also put just a small dab of Shoe Goo on the caps before screwing them in to ensure they do not back out. And finally you may want to remove the rubber dust covers that fit over the pivot balls. There is a possibility they will bind when the suspension is at maximum travel and actually help in the process of popping the balls out of the socket.

I've only ever popped one out. Of course my nitro Revo was doing about 40 down the street, and I clipped a mailbox with the back right. Never had any troubles other than that...

Was this a stock carrier? Or RPM?

Also, I would like to get a wheelie bar for the Revo, does anyone know of a good one?

That was a stock knuckle.

As far as a wheelie bar goes, a wing is the best wheelie bar in my opinion...
