Revo Tranny Questions - 03.05.2008, 11:15 AM

I was wondering if anyone here runs a revo tranny, locked in second, with the center diff? I would like to use the motor brakes on this revo project, but would also like to try out the center diff.

I understand that braking will not be as good, due to lack of adjustable bias. Not really a problem as I will most likely just bash with the truck.

Also wondering what weight of fluid would be required for the center diff? From what I have hears the diff requires heavier oil than usual due to the smaller spider gears inside of the diff. That is what I heard anyway.

Proposed setup is the revo tranny, locked in second, hybrid diffs with buggy ratio gears, a MM, 4s lipo, and most likely a 7xl. Motor and esc may be different, not sure about them yet.

is it going to be a custom conversion or are you going to use a kit? if your going to use a kit, try out the blue groove concepts one, ive been curious about it- although the motor mount doesnt look that good, id replace it with the rc-m one.

Well, I have a tekno battery tray and straps, and a rcm motor mount. Not really much else needed, save for an esc mount and a rec mount. I will most likely make a plate over each shock mount to hold the rec and esc.

I have an off the wall revo conversion kit, not sure which one it is. I may use some parts out of it. It has an adapter to munt the old style maxx spurs to the revo slipper, and some sort of internal tranny coupler. I will have to disassemble the tranny to see what it does to lock it.

BrianG had it listed in his thread about locking the tranny in second gear. I ended up with the complete conversion due to late night bidding on ebay!

I am currently in the process of creating a brushless Revo and chose to use a center diff with Ofna diff lock lube. I hear it works good for bashing and doesn't unload too often. I'll be running MM, 8XL, and stock diff's with a 4s Lipo. Tranny is also locked in second.
Hopefully I will be able to test it out soon!

Ok, found the conversion info.

http://www.eaglesviewaerial.com/revoelectrickit.html

I like the motor mount, and may give it a try, along with the speed control mount. Most likely will use the tekno battery tray, and will run dual steering servos, as that is what I have.

Motor will be a hacker c50 13l and a quark 125b on 5s lipo. Sound do well as it is almost the same as my emaxx setup, cave for the maxx has a 15l hacker.

Gearing at 17/40 with the tranny locked in 2nd, and buggy ratio diffs gives me right at 40mph.

I will try out the center diff, and see how it does with the 50k traxxas diff lube.

I will post some pics of the tranny mods, as they are different from the others that I have seen.

For the center diff you should try Kyosho 500K. Everything else is just too thin (although I'm not sure about the Ofna diff locker stuff). The Kyosho oil will still allow diff action but will be more controllable and won't turn the front tires into pizza cutters every time you get on the gas.
