I do a search and there are these different Ofna 1/8 buggys. I just came across an Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Sport roller (never been run) for sale. I'm trying to understand what is the difference between all these ones. Can someone please help me out.

Hyper7 was first, then the hyper 7 pbs and pcr came out, then they hyper 8 came out, then the hyper 8.5 came out, the hyper 7 tq sport is pretty recent, but based on the old, but only slightly outdated (unless you race) hyper 7 chassis. Your best bet would be to avoid it since it's pretty much a cheap nitro rtr. For the same price you could get a used roller without the nitro gear you don't want anyways and better quality.

What if a roller would cost me 200 CAD? I see most of the 1/8 rollers above 200. This one hasn't been run. It is just a roller.

Then what would the ofna MBX considered? I wish there was a ranking for the various ofna 1/8's available out there.

MBX=POS IMO

Seriously... The MBX is not a very tough buggy. I had one that i covnverted to brushless some time ago and I wound up replacing in a mattr of weeks. The whole thing is very cheaply made. Hence the cheap price.

Never had a hyper 7 but they look alot better than the MBX for sure.

Although I do agree w/ Supra... look around for a decent used roller of a better buggy. The Jammins ar nice and you can get a decent used roller for $200. Much better in the long run.

Jeff - whats your take on a GTP then - even the new one looks very much like a MBX?

PS IIRC I picked up an x1cr for 125 but that was a steal

Its probably ok to be used as a pavement pounder. Flat driving with no jumps. But trying to jump one of those things and the chassis flexes all over the place. and everything just bends.

I'll say this. A friend on mine has the GTP and he had a minor run away. (it was quite entertaining wahtching him chase it around the parking lot as the servos both went crazy zig zaging all over with high throttle then high brakes.

Nothing more entertaining that watching a grown man chase a toy around in public.)

Anyway it eventually clipped a curb and that stopped it. It wasnt going that fast, but that chassis was a MESS! Everything bent.

A couple nights later another friend with a Mugen buggy had a "spektrum moment" and he clipped the same curb but easily at twice the speed. He scraped up the front of the chassis and broke a front arm, but nothing like the mangled mess the GTP was.

Then Mugen and Jammin it is. Isn't the Mugen a MBX5?

Ahhh jeff your making my life a nightmare! Trying to decide to sell MBX5-MSRT and buy a GTP or convert the MBX5-MSRT into a GTP...

I hope I find one in the 200 dollar range with shipping included. Then I can sell my Jato for like 150 as a roller. It will be almost RTR with some fixes. Sat around for a year, betcha that engine is shot.

I'm just getting confused. I'm being told the MBX is not so great but try a mugen or jammin. When I search ebay for a mugen the MBX5 comes up. Ahh I'm going to go crazy soon.

Ofna MBX and Mugen MBX5 is not the same thing.

Keep the Mugen IMO. Convert it back to buggy dimension arms and get a set of GRP Rally tires and your all set. if you want to rig up some sort of body mouonts to run a kyosho or ofna on road body. Rear shock tower might be a challenge to get under the on road body though.

Besides that... there is nor GTP motor mount out there that is a drop in fit so you would need to do some fabrication work to get it all set up anyway.

Or if you really want to go crazy get youself a DM1 to convert. I love mine. The Jammin buggy mount is a drop in fit for the DM1. Although... the DM1 is a bit more $
