Question MGM 16018 auto-tuning problem - 05.02.2008, 11:53 PM

Hello, i've run my MBX5T today with the Neu 1515 1Y, FP 4s and MGM 16018 with the new software. It's killer!!! Lot of power, it's unbealevable.
But after the first run, i've decided to perform an automatic tuning on the controller, but when i've try to write the data on the controller, he beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeppp and never stop of beeeping. I've disconect the USBCOM+ from the controller and try to give it a run as they said in the manual, but nothing when i pull trigger, and the controler keep beeping.
So i've reconct the controller on the USBCOM+ module and put it in CAR forward mode, write data, motor beep tree time and all was correct.

Why the controller don't want to go in auto-tuning????

The only reason i can see is that i've not perform the auto-tuning at very first time that i've run the controller and after that, he don't want to did it.

But if it's for this reason, do they have a trick to "reset" the controller and do an auto-tuning???

Another question, when i pull trigger, seem to have a light deadband before the car start to move,,,,why??? Is the range of neutral zone who's not right setting?? which the better setting for neutral zone??

Thank you!

David

Wish I could David, but I have stayed away from mgm, mainly due to the abnormally large amount of issues people seem to have with them. Good luck!

David heres a couple of things you can try if you have not done so already.

Try reseting the controller to default settings using the default button in software.
Try programming autotune mode from the controller instead of from the software.
For neutral range I use default of 12 but you can try a lower number to limit deadband.

As for the long beep you get when trying to write data I think that is warning that the programming is corrupt and requires reset to default settings before you can make any additional changes.

But could you tell me where is this reset button???
When i open the program on my computer, i can't see any reset button

Another thing, have you try to run your controler on cut off mode???
For me, when i run in cutoff mode, the controler "cut" after only 4-5min of run, but if i put it on reduce rpm mode, i can dump my pack without any problem, and i can't observe any reduction in performance thrue the pack.

I've a Flightpower 5000mAh, 4s.

Thank you!

sounds like the exact problem that the new firmware was supposed to fix. Ooops.

Yes, i've send my controller to MGM to update it with the new 3.21 SW but it continue to cut in "cutoff mode"

I'am to download the 3.22sw but not sure if this was fix the problem.

Anyway, i exactly know what i'll do at the track, i'll program it on "race mode", like that i'll don't have any problem with cutoff.
Anyways, at the track i only run 5 or 6 minutes at time, and i re-peak my pack each time.

There is no reset button... the one you want is the defaults button located bottom left side of the program window.

Yes I have a problem with cut off mode getting tripped earlier then reduce rpm does. I have old firmware so it's expected, but that is the only real problem so for me it's not worth it to send in for updating. Once I get the new mamba then maybe I'll send the MGM in. Maybe by then they will have a fully functional firmware ready.

So i suppose you run it in reduce rpm mode?? And do you feel any sign of power reduction during your whole pack?? Do you feel that the controler reduce the power and the rpm of you motor when the pack is 1/2 or 3/4 empty??

And is the auto tuning realy help with performance or the controller??

If i experiment any lost in power in reduce rpm, i'll run it on race mode for sure.

I am usually able to pull at least 4500mah before the lvc kicks in which is why it does not bother me.

I don't know that auto tune helps in performance so much as it seems to fix odd problems like brakes, freewheel, and neutral braking. The thing that I would be concerned about is that you get the corrupt eeprom beep when trying to save programming changes.

OK but you don't tell me in which mode (cutoff or reduce rpm) you drive it to pull 4500mAh from your pack??

And for the beeep, all seam to be OK, i don't have this problem anymore, but it's just the auto tuning that i'am not able to do.

David,

The only way I was able to do autotuning with my 16018 was to initiate it by programming with the controller. Using the PC software to initiate autotune was always unsuccessful. I would experience the beeping as you mentioned, and could not get the ESC to respond until after a power cycle.

Try going through the programming with the TX, and set it to autotune. This should work :).

I have to use reduce rpm mode, if I use cut off mode then it trips the lvc early so I do not use that mode.

If you are having the same problem with the new firmware then I guess theres little point in sending in my controller to have it updated until this problem gets corrected.

its crazy they should have changed the lvc to have it where it has to hang at the low voltage for bit before it trips the lvc switch vs the dipping voltage for split second and it trips...i have two MMM's on order ....mgm is going to lose alot of customers here real soon...
