That's awesome! I had a cocker spaniel when I was a kid that would kill snakes but not eat them. She didn't care how big and if they were poisonous or not. She only got bit once by a copperhead and had to go to the vet. She would collect turtles and bring them to our doorstep and pick tomatoes out of the garden and drop them off for us as well.

Dogs that chase snakes over here don't live long. Are those poisonous?

Well ya'll have some seriously poisonous snakes in the Australia. My cousin married him a nice Aussie girl and lives there and has told me some tales. I think our most poisonous rattler doesn't even hold a candle to some of the aussie bad boys.

yes it was poisonus (pointed head) 95% sure it was a smaller watermacaison only about 3 1/2 feet long. i have a bordercollie he is really big and tall unlike a normal border collie weighs about 65 pounds or so. he has been bit prolly 5-6 times, we took him to the ve the first 2 and after that we figured we would just let him be the last time he got bit his cheek was only swollen for about 6 hours.

there is a huge king snake in our barn that eats rats and rabits and other snakes out of the ponds and oneday buddy (my dog) tried to get him and well the kingsnake has been living in our barn for roughly 9-10 years and is well over 6 feet long and a little bit smaller around than your wrist, the king snake bit him a couple times but they arent poisonus but we had to pull them apart becasue buddy was trying to bit the snake neck off mean while the snake was strangling him around one of his front legs and his chest.......i had ahold of buddy and my grandpa had a hold of the snake and it was not fun because both were very pissed off

he has never messed with a rattle snake only barks so i guess he isnt that stupid, he kinda taunts them and when they start to retreat away he goes for there head. i wish i could catch him on video doing its really awesome to see but not cool to watch him eat it..

and yea im pretty sure aussie land has worse snakes than we do.

You need to hire out your dog, u could make alot of money off of all of the people with snake problems. First buy him one of those doggy kevlar vest to protect his vital areas though. Hog hunters use them on their dogs.

The problem here I think is that the 2 really common snakes are also really poisonous. They aren't that aggressive but dogs love to chase them and it normally ends badly.

my dog is getting old he will be 11 this year and has lately been catching gofers instead of snakes

he will lay by their holes for hours on end just waiting perfectly still and when the gofer pops his head out of the hole......snap...... just another snack, this is why i can tell he is getting older, he likes laying out there for hours just sunbathing and waiting for a gofer rather than running around all day and playing in the pond, he will still chase the horses around for awhile everyday until the mule gets after him and runs him off but im starting to tell he is getting older and prolly needs to be put on some kind of arthuritus medicine for dogs too.

We put our old lab/chou mix on some arthritus meds when he was about 9-10 years old. It gave him another 3+ years of good life. I really miss old rex, but he was an outdoor dog ,85lbs, and lived 13 great years. Only dog I know that would look up in the trees to find squirrels. I am not sure what the med was, but it really helped his back legs and back.

friends of ours had their dog on pet arthritis meds and it helped but not a lot. Then the wife started giving the dog a very small amount of her arthritis meds and it made a huge difference.

Vitamin C and glucosamine are the things to get him on... and try to get his weight down if you can for less stress on the joints...
