Should I switch to dx3r?? - 06.28.2008, 09:38 PM

I currently have a Nomadio React and like it but it seems to glitch a lot on me lately, not sure why. And with parts (ie RX's) getting more scarce i am toying with changing to the dx3r. I don't really use the telemetry so that is not an issue but it is nice to have. I really love the micro size of the sr3100. Let me know what you all think. Suggest any other radios as well but want to stay at around 300 for the radio and rx. Also needs to be 2.4ghz style (no crystals)
Thanks

Futaba 3pm FAAST I got mine for $170 from Tower, was easy to setup, is easy to program and the range is as far as you can see

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPZT7&P=0

and if you add $10 more on the order you will get $25 off

The DX3R is a nice transmitter. The large led and roll button/selector on the back make navagaiting the menus and selecting options a snap with one hand. It looks cool and feels good to me. That was the main reason I bought one. One problem I have with it is the wheel is farther from the grip or angled differently. Most standard controllers I can reach the steering wheel with my thumb and operated (crazy stuff and WOT excluded) the rc with just one hand. This one is a real stretch to do that safely. I would say it pretty durable in a sense. I knocked mine off the workbench. The outside casing broke into several peices and some wires came disconnected from the board. It looked like a complete loss. I ended up buying the only other DSM tx the lhs had that day to run all my recently converted rx. So ended up with a dx3 which is nice to have another rx that can run the dsm receivers. I was able to patch the DX3R back together and resolder the wires that come loose during the humpty dumpty impersonation. The led came back to life and it's working great still. So I would say the internals are strong but the case isn't as structurly solid as the older sytle dx3 in my experience. The weak part seems to be where the hanlde attaches to the oversized top. I have gotten into the habbit of laying it down now instead of having it standing up. I did have a problem last winter (before the drop) that I lost the LED when it was below freezing out. Haven't had any other issues or glitching with the dx3r. Works well with all my rc's electric or nitro and a boat that hasn't sunk yet.

I've had mine for quite sometime. I think its so-so. Since mine was one of the first ones, it does have that occasional loss of binding.

What I like; Light, easy to use, compact without feeling compact. Menus are easy to use and intuitive.

What I don't like; Looks and feels cheap. Seams that don't line up nicely. No backlight.

I think its okay. But I bought a Futaba FAAST system. I like the feel of the Futaba better...

You should go to your local hobby shop and pick up all the controllers and see which one you like the best... I would suggest a KO PROPO ex-10 helio with a spektrum pro and a liop battery it make the radio extremely light.. I have raced with all the spektrum radios and a m11 and i really like the ko propo with a drop down wheel they are expensive but worth it because you can use it for years and years and they are very durable...

+1

But they do have a factory 2.4G version out now. The receiver is about the smallest I've seen. They also have the EX-1 coming back out with the 2.4G system. That was my favorite radio of all time!

I used to have a 3pk and got rid of it when i got my nomadio. I like the nomadio better than the 3pk but i have dropped it a few times so now it does weird things on me. Also the rx's are HUGE. Really like to get a system with the smallest rx. Besides tower has the 3pk for the 3 easy pay so i am really leaning to that with the fasst system in it.

(For what it worth)
I've got (2) the DX2.0 and (1) of the DX3.0 and they are all great systems but for good cheep system, the DX2.0 will never let you down, it is still a 2.4gz system, holds 2 trucks and is rather cheaply priced.

Best of luck in your search.

Nothing!.. Hahahahaaa..

Thank you all for you input it has helped me along the way. I have decided on futabas fasst for sure but looking at this radio for now. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPZT7&P=0
Cheaply priced and comes with 1 rx and i will buy a second rx at the time of the purchase.
Only question is will i be able to use the rx's from the 3pm with the 3pk or 4pk because if i find one cheap enough i will buy that later on. If they wont i might as well just go with a 3pk with only rx for now. Just dont need all the goodies a 3pk has but down the line when money is better it could be nice. Thanks
