top speed rustler project - 05.27.2008, 11:42 AM

hey guys im going to be rebuilding my top speed rustler i have. currently its running on a vxl motor, mm esc, 4 cell lipo, and a ccbec. its very fast. i have not gotten a chance to find out how fast it really going. (no radar gun) but im trying to bet 82mph and that was with the same setup. so i want to build it differently so i can just go way past 82mph. here is the setup im planing on doing

6xl motor
mmm esc
6 cell lipos
revo gearing with mod1 pinions

I just had one question. i know that i well be over reving the 6xl motor by like 20000 rpm. but you think it should be able to hold up if i only run it for like 2 speed runs. at a time.

thanks!.

err Feigao's are rated to about 40k... This is 20k over the top... the magnet may shatter...

If serious I would suggest you are better off with a 1509 / 1512 neu

yah i said it was 20k over the limit.

i sow a while ago on a site but i cant remember the site. that there are high speed barrings for these motors that well let you go a bit over 40k. any one know the site or know what im talking about.

plus im not looking to spend a lot of money on this thing. and most of the stuff thats going into it i can use to convert a truggy like i want to after this project. but as for the motor that well be to much kv for the truggy.

The point is if you're serious about getting 90 mph or whatever, you're probably gonna need a neu 1512. for 6s, a 9XL would be far, far better than a 6XL. I think bearings are not really going to help the 6XL not explode.

Here is the link...

I'm not sure that this will get you all the way as I think the magnet will break before the bearings fail.... I had a 9xl on 4s with a revo break!

ok thank you.

i also had a 9xl on 4s on a revo and it ran great. never once had a problem with it. so as of right now i trust these cheap motors.

once oneof them brakes i well start using neu motors lol.

plus for the motor only being 50$ i think i well take a chance.

Might as well just get like a nue 1509 or 1512, they are RATED for 60k....

Maybe a Lehner 1920 if you have the money. Thing with a Neu though, is that 4 poles at that rpm may be quite hard on the speed control.

Get me back into RC!

a XL or Neu 1512 is too much torque for the Rustler..I am running a stock VXL Rustler with 9L and I have problems with the torque .I have the Revo 40 tooth spur with a 16 tooth pinion and it is plenty fast. A 6 turn motor will be a fireball on 6s good luck with the setup and get some vids it should be entertaining you might want to put some lead weights on the chassis to make it more stable....

Would it really be running 20k over when it is under the load of pushing a rustler ~80mph?

well right now i cant keep the front down. but i got some new shocks that lowered it almost to the ground so it is a little bit stable. also im waiting tell my work gets in the wheely bar. that should help a lot.

i think im going to just go with the 6xl motor. should be starting the rebuild in mid june.

yah i already killed a set of anacondas with just the vxl motor and 4 cells. im going to try the road rage tires and tape them down on to some traxxas light weight dish wheels since the roadrage tires have more surface area on the ground. i was looking at the anacondas and not much of the tire is on the ground. .
