Question MMM Temp without Fan? - 06.01.2008, 06:22 AM

How many people have recorded the temp of a MMM without a fan? If so, what setup and what temp do you get?

I took the top of the casing off with the fan on the truggy. After 5 min racing runs with a 1515 1.5D, I was getting up to 155F. I could position the MMM to get better cooling.

In my FLM Savage X SS, 8XL, 4s 4900mah pack, 16/48.
I was getting 90-110F with fan working. The fan quit on me and temps rose to 140F.

Anyone in need of a replacement fan can give tech support a call. We'll be happy to send a new one out to you. 913-390-6939 and hit 1 for tech support. DO NOT RUN THE CONTROLLER WITHOUT THE FAN ON...IT IS OBVIOUSLY THERE FOR A REASON!!! ;) And I might add it also VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY!

Is it ok to run another fan on top while waiting for the replacement (2 - 3 weeks to Australia)
Will it void the warranty at all by removing the fan from the MMM and running off the RX power or seperate BEC?

Just curious. Are the replacement fans of a new MFG/supplier? Or are you sending the same fan as a replacement? If you are using a new supplier can we get that info for future reference? Thank you Mr. Ford.

Same fans...no shipping 1kg of them to Australia ;) , and ANY running without the fan, separate BEC or not, will void your warranty.

Joe:

Castle may want to consider using a fan with a longer wire so it can be powered off the receiver instead of the ESC board. Fan failures seem to be pretty common and caused by either 1) blades hitting the grills of the case or 2) the fan connector breaking off the ESC board.

One mod folks have been doing is adding small spacer on top of the fan or grill to prevent the blades from hitting the grill. Additionally, others are dremmeling out the bottom of the case a hair to prevent the ESC board from hitting the bottom of the case which is what is appearing to cause the fan connector to break.

I highly doubt it since you're just removing the sticker and pushing in 8 tabs. Plus, you need to remove the case to access the fan.

I found a fan that may work as a replacement if you don't want to get another from Castle or want to have a backup on hand. It's a Novak fan (those other guys) that measures 30x30x6. I measured the stock fan @ 30x30x7. Both take a 5v input. There's one at my LHS that I'll pick up and test fit to make sure.

And like Joe said, do not run it without a fan. Judging by the temps some of us have seen it's just not a good idea.
