New LiPo Set arrived - only one word ... - 09.30.2005, 06:55 AM

AWESOME !!!

Yesterday I receive my LiPo`s that I have ordered from www.maxamps.com (by the way - a really good company with a very good service) and I charged them in the evening.

I ordered the following LiPo`s:

2 x 4200mah Capacity, 7.4 Volts, 35mm X 98mm X 34mm, Rated at 60 Amp Constant Discharge, Rated at 80 Amp Burst for 10 seconds, 245 grams

It is unbelieveable - with my HV-Maxx and this incredible "power/weight" ratio of these LiPo`s the truck seems to "explode".

But the best of all is the runtime - I bash that beast about 25 minutes before my "low voltage device" that I have mounted afterwards my self to the LiPo`s started to blink and this does NOT mean that the batteries are empty - it only shows me to be a little bit carefull - the power and the acceleration of the truck is still the same !!!

What can say ? Only WOOOOW !!! LiPo`s are the future !

In the moment I am working on my Brushless Revo (Mike know`s what I am talking about) and I think I will sell all my 7 cell packs to buy only LiPo`s for thoose two "beasts".

A video of this "new experience of driving"will follow as soon as possible.

I'm really intrested in Lipos but don't know about the cells and voltage of them?

I use the Great Planes Triton, Lipo charging specs':
1-4 Lithium-Ion or Lithium-polymer cells (3.6 - 14.8V Li-Ion/Li-Po)

So if I wanted to run equivalent to 18 cells? What would I need, whats 2S, 4S etc' mean?

Thanks.

Good to hear you'll join the BL Revo club!

Your thread makes me wanna get Lipos!

Nick, those S numbers tell you how many cells are in series. And one Lipo cell has 3.7V.

So I could have one pack 2 cells and one pack 3 and run around 18v? Each would need charging seperatly?

Do Lipos need discharging/equalising and stuff?

(Sorry for thread hijacking)

Hi,

everything what is divisible or multiplied with 3,7V is what you need:

For example - you want around 18 V - that means 5 cells x 3,7 V = 18,5 V.

You do not have to worry about the number of cells - only look for the capacity you want (4200mAh, 6300mAh, 8400mAh or 10500mAh - that is what is available on www.maxamps.com with 18,5 V), for the voltage you need, the weight you want to care on your truck and the size you are able to accommodate on your truck.

Take your voltage and divide it with 3,7 V and you always know the number of cells you are speaking about (18,5 V / 3,7 V = 5 cells).

So if you have a good charger only told him the voltage, the number of cells, the capacitiy (good chargers do that automaticly) and the Amp`s you want to charge (max. 1C that means if your LiPo has 4200mAh only charge it with max. 4,2 A).

BUT BE CAREFULL - YOU NEED UNCONDITIONAL A CHARGER THAT IS ABLE TO CHARGE LIPO`S !!!

And no, LiPo`s need NO discharging - that is not good for them - you need a low voltage device or a cut off device to preserve of discharging until empty !!!

Hope that helps

Hi,

nothing adventerous :W: :W: :W: - only some rules/things you have to look for.

Easy going :)

Well I need a new charger and I guess a decent Lipo charger would be around $100 which is too much just for Lipos...

There are charger's out there that can do both(lipo and nihm) so you can still charge your normall batt's if you have a car to put them in.

I'm also debating weither or not to go lipo.

What charger is that?

Isn't what overcharging? A 4s pack when fully charged is at 16.80v. That is very close to it.

I too want to know what charger that is. Harald-hans, welcome to the awesome world of LiPo! I am very happy to hear that you like it.

The charger is an all purpose one from Simprop(I have the same one)
1-25 cells
It will even charge PB/ lead acid batts.
I think Pro Peak do a very similar one too.
Cost £98 but well worth it,
I use mine for charging everything from a glow stick, to 4 x 7.2v stick packs at the same time!!

Yes, that`s right - it is a product from a german company called "Simprop Electronic" but here in Germany I have payed only around 100,00 EUR (around £65).

It is a very very good allround charger and you can really charge "anything"
