Can you name the best part maker for the Rustler? -
07.21.2008, 03:23 PM
Hi guys,
Just wanted to know what do you think about part makers for the rustler.
I see there are several, not all make the same parts but some of them are identical.
- FLM
- Traxxas
- ST Racing Concept
- another brand?
Which is the best for reliability? toughness? machining quality? best fit? weight? overall value? etc
Thanks for any input. Please share your experience but don't trash one make r if you don't have a real experience with it.
Cheers!
PS : a stock rustler running 3S A123 on a FLM chassis is already an AWESOME value I would highly recommend it, especially for the price

Any RPM part i would get. For anything else FLM is good but it is alloy so it is heavier. I have a FLM savage and love the quility and fit of the parts. Very very strong. I have also had RPM parts on many Different vehicles so you cant go wrong there either.
So my vote is
Plastic - RPM
Alloy - FLM
I fly, I drive, but most of all I crash.

I have a stampede which I have stuck all the RPM parts on. The RPM stuff is nice.

FLM, particularly the transmission case. One of the more worthwhile upgrades for sure. For example, my stock plastic diff will not strip while housed in this case...
SH Z-Car, Custom Crawler, 8s Savage, 12s XTM XLB 1/7 buggy, 4wd 4-link rear/IFS Pro4 truck, Custom Hyper 10 Short Course, Belt-Drive Mammoth ST 1/8 truggy, 4s 17.5 MM Pro HPI Blitz

RPM and FLM. I had a mix of both on my old Rustler, and it was indestructible.

Alright, sounds like FLM for alloy and RPM for plastic are the way to go.
Now how do you think they compare in terms of durability? Bling appart, will the alloy be tougher or is it the hard plastic? If the best is a mix of alloy and plastic as I expect to hear, which part should be RPM and which part would be best in alloy?

The FLM c-hubs and bulkhead with RPM arms would be a good start

the RPM parts arent harder than the stock parts but more flexable and less likely to break(gthis happens when you crash) I like them as A arms, shock towers, front bumper...and you can use them instead of the FLM if you want to keep weight down

FLM and RPM all the way!
I had 2 FLM pedes, and there were tanks! Breaking one would require some hardcore bashing LOL

flm= bulks, tranny case, shock towers, front arm brace. Now if you want flm arms you need flm hubs/ bearing carriers or a drill press. if you go rpm arms, strc hubs and knuckles. Holeshot eng. carbon chassis. Traxxas hop up knuckles, steering bell and turnbuckles are pretty good quality too. My picks

FLM - tranny case, bulkhead, shock towers, steering blocks
RPM - bumper, a-arms, bearing carriers
