does unbalanced tires, slow down your top speed? -
08.07.2008, 06:48 PM
ok, im running a emaxx 3905, mmm/7xl geared 24/68 with 2x2s 5k 25/50c neu energy lipos. on
brians speed calculater, supposely i should be around the 40mph mark.
i have no rubbing in the drive train. so when im doing speed runs, my truck is ok fast, but not fast like the emaxx s ive seen on videos with the same setup or even a slower setup. is it because the videos make them look faster? i do notice my tires are somewhat unbalanced, but i have one tire that is more unbalanced than the others where when i zoom the truck by me, ill hear clump clump clump.
so will this be the cause of this? if so, how much speed does a unbalanced tire approxametly be slowing me down if any? i know this is a veeery hard question to answer but im just asking if anyone might know this.
ps. about how long of a street do you need for my setup to see the top end speed? in the videos, i see you guys run your truck so far back where you can barely see it anymore. for me, i just have the truck like 150ft away from me and zoom by...cus i think its topping out already ( i really think it tops out, i dont see it gaining any more speed)...or is thaaaat the reason why, cus its not even enough room to top out yet? sorry for the very long post.

Yes, unbalanced tires will slow you down. How much depends on the severity of the imbalance and the rotational speed of the tires.

darn. so thats prolly the cause then. i think its pretty bad. when i hold my truck up, it vibrates and shakes like crazy. is there like a professional tire gluer and balancer in here for monster trucks where i can pay you to glue on some tires for me haha. i wasted like 2 sets already doing them and theyre still brand new. i take very good time and effort doing them too.
someone else told me that unbalanced tires wont slow me down, it just causes issues in going in a straight line.

You can use http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/4870 to get a really good balance or just an axle and a good set of bearings. It's not that hard the problem is they tend to unbalance themselves pretty quickly.
Savage: FLM Conversion, 6s, MMM, CC 1520.
Mini-T Pro: Micro Pro 6800kv, Lipo, HS-81mg, Dirt Hawgs
M18MT: Quark 33A, Y22S 6000kv, FP 2s Lipo
LRP S8-BX: RC-M Conversion, Tekin RX8 B1600KV, 6S.

how do they unbalance themselves? from when you crash your tires onto something? oh quick question, does having toe out in the 2 front tires slow your top speed down? my two front tires are veeery slightly toed out, for some reason, my truck is able to handle better this way on high speeds.

dang, i think thats what happened with my tire. cus it doesnt seem like its heavier on one side, it seems like the foams inside shifted making it unbalanced that way. is there anyway to fix this? or is the only way to just squeeze the tire around in random spots and luckily fix itself haha?

They got like this spray adheasive that glues your foam to the wheel to keep it from shifting around also I think I read somewhere that when you balance a standered size monster truck wheels and tires you about 1-2 mph increase in top speed plus it's easier on wheel bearings.

someone told me about them spray adhesive, but what if you dont get it right the very first time, then your stuck with it in a bad situation.
unless the bond doesnt really glue untill like an hour so you can mess around with it first.

Yea its not instant you have some time to mess with it, I have some of it on back order because they say its a must for the rear tires on an hpi baja 5b and since mine is going to be brushless I'll really want it.
