Lipo mod for Spektrum DX3.0 ?

Does anyone know of a "how-to" for modifying the Spektrum DX3.0 (or DX2) for lipo use? I already have the lipo, but I don't want to screw up my rx experimenting. :-)

I imagine you're thinking of running 3s? I don't think any mods are necessary really. Lipo nominal is 11.1v, "peaked" is 12.6v, and at LVC is ~9v (although I'd go no lower than 10v really). 8 Alkaline cells can be a little over 1.5v, which is 12v on the button. Don't think this will be an issue. You could use a v regulator, but the dropout voltage will be the limiting factor unless you use 4s instead.

Either way, I'd be more leary about making sure I kept an eye on the V to prevent discharging too low.

I did this mod with a 3s lipo - Very easy - I just opened up the tx and added an soldered an additional connection for the lipo - I opted a female rx connection as my lipo had male rx installed but room enough for micro deans.

Is there anything physically I would need to do? Or is it as simple as opening the case and soldering a new plug on the red/black wire combo nearest the battery tray?

Simple as that - I did remove 1 small section of internal plastic to make routing the cable back into the main battery compartment easier - I just soldered onto the back of the existing battery coonectors.

If the battery fits ok it is a max 10 minute mod...

i got the hobbycity rhino one 2620mah... cost 15 bucks. (US) + 3 bucks shipping

cant beat that. ive got a jr sx3 which is identical. i just unsoldered the battery terminal thingys (took it apart first) then added some more wire and added 2mm bullet plugs which i still had. cost me almost nothing for the peace of mind my stupid battery wont go flat. and its a higher voltage than my nimh! and its lighter too. hope this helps,
