recommended lipo for MMM and NEU - 09.21.2008, 11:28 PM

Guys, need some advice. I have a MMM with NEU 1515 1y in brushless converted revo. I've been running 5s 4800mah 25C lipo and this thing is a beast.

I was thinking of getting another lipo. Do you think this set-up will run with a 6s 4000mah 15C lipo? Or will the motor/esc pull too many amps and lipo will overheat?

I think it will be too much for that 4000mah 15c battery. Battery will likely get too hot.

your first battery is rated for 120A (4800 25C)
The second is rated for 60A (4000 15C)
The motor is said to burst at 110A

anything is possible, so I'd never want to discourage anyone....

...that said, it doesnt look very promising that the 6s will last very long.

I used a "bottom" line.

I watched a 15c 4400 (3s) smoke on fire for about 3 minutes today, (by a velineon 3500kv) Never seen a lipo actually just smoke itself, no fire and didnt even really puff ((wasnt a short) i dont think, didnt disect it) wasnt my rig. But I just wouldnt run anything that low amp on a 1y, Joe ford and Patric recommended 75 amp min. if I recall. I stick to 150 amp and have had no problems since the mad upgrade

Stick with 5s, and a 25c battery. Are you running the elite batteries?

thanks all for the responses. my 5s is actually a hyperion. love this lipo.

also, is the recommended 75amp for 6s or lower voltage? i thought system will pull less amp if running higher voltage. is this true?

No. Your system will be prone to pulling more current the more voltage you use. To get less current with more voltage you have to use a lower kv motor or gear lower.

Spend a LOT of money on them and you will have good batteries.. at least that is the impression I have gotten from Castle.. Cause of the that dreaded ripple current... and it's fight to burn up MMMs.

i want to get a MMM+neu1515/1y
would SPC 2s 8000mah 12c be good enough?
i thought the low c rating slows it down, not destroy the packs
would i be fine with some punch control or sumething

8000 x 12c = 96 amps you can pull safely, if you trust the manufacturers C # should be fine LOL (check people eagle trees running the same system around here for peaks and variances ) I run 150 amp (30c 5ah) and havent had an issue since I went higher current. JMO

A lower C rating wont slow down your truck (or the amount of current the lipo can deliver), moreover it will cause the lipo to heat up and go puff since it cant provide the current you are asking of it; like making a fat guy run, he gets hot and sweaty alot quicker than a healthy person would.

Punch control doesnt reduce total current draw either, merely the initial current when you mash the throttle, so it is of small benefit to run more punch control; no substitute to good lipos..

i have a neu energy 5k 25c hard case lipo that runs good on my 7xl/mmm.
quick question, if i was to use my 2 sets of 7 cell 3300 gp nimh batteries, how many amps would that be? i never know how you guys configure amps and such.
should i even risk it? will it blow out my mmm by any chance? i dont really care for the batteries. i reemember reading the mmm's instuction and it says it needs alot of power/juice to make the esc happy. so will those gp 7 cells provide enough juice?

I run my 8ight and muggy with elite/neuenergy/thunderpower/zippy/crapsamps/ lipos .... and i would have to say that best bang for the buck the 20-30c zippy are great...i don't really notice a drop off in power b/w these or the other lipos i run....as long as you're geared correctly your lipos should never get too hot....and i own 4s 5000mah in all of these brands and would rank them like this:

1.THUNDERPOWER
2.NEUENERGY
3.ZIPPY
4.ELITE
5.*****
6.*****
7.*****
8.*****
9.*****
10. ******
1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. CRAPSAMPS....
