Ordered and paid for 8ight roller and got the 8ight RTR 0081 ??DIFFERENCES?? - 09.08.2008, 07:49 PM

Guys can anyone familure with these two deals, the 8ight buggy race roller 0801 and the 8ight buggy RTR 0081, let me know the differnces? Is it worth keeping the RTR? I got it at the Race Rollers price.. and Don't need all the parts dx2 etc.. what parts are "hopped up" on the race roller besides the shock towers anything? I was going brushless too most likely so I can recoupe some from selling the motor and pipe and other 'nitro' parts off// please trump in with your thoughts as I have to make a quick decision if I keep it or not.

Looks like the differences are the chassis is coated, thicker shock towers and aluminum shock caps... anything else?

The differences:
-Shocks towers/front and back
-The Shocks...the roller has aluminum top and bottom caps
-I believe the chassis on the roller is the hard annodized chassis...thicker aluminum so it will survive the numerous triples/doubles/a brushless chaos that you can throw at it...

Thats about it....and you can definitly recoup the costs after selling the spektrum radio and all the nitro stuff.....nowadays on ebay the radio/rx can go for $100.00....and the unused engine can sell for around $80-$100.....and the unused nitro stuff can go for about $20-$30..........so max you are looking at is $230........now for brushless:

Mike's motor mount=$50
Mikes battery tray=$40

so that's $130 leftover for a motor/batteries....

Unless you race and land all your jumps perfectly and are into super-fine tuning your 8ight then get that chassis but if your into bracing (bashing and racing) the upgraded losi chassis is your best bet.....i've put my 8ight through hell and back running on 4s neu 1515 1y/f with a MM and a MMM and the only2 things that i've ever broke in the last 9 months were a rear hub carrier and a rear diff case and this was when i didn't know how to jump.....just my 2cents

Thanks.. also to note other differences.. the braces front and rear that hold the a-arm pins, the a-arm pins are also upgraded, the hubs on the wheels are upgraded and as noted above the shocks are alum top and bottom and the chassis and shock towers.. quite a few goodies actually.. but for what I spent - the dx2, - the sr3000, - the servo's - the nitro parts even though I'm getting a few other upgrades it's way cheaper. I just found the losi "pro" or upgraded chassis new on ebay for 39 bux +ship and the shock towers I snagged from that dragon racing ebay shop for cheap and look at least as good as losi's w/ even more mounting options. So I will dump less than 80 or so back into it for some upgrade parts... rest can stay ;)

Another thing to remember is that the RTR diffs are filled with grease, not oil, so if you keep it, before to change them before running

the front aluminum shock caps are a NEEDED item as are the CNC shock towers. You will quickly replace the RTR ones believe me. Rear plastic shock caps work fine.

the chassis - I haven't had much of a problem with my RTR chassis but I think I can tell it's bowing slightly. The milled hardened chassis would really be better.

Then - the pro roller comes with a full set of sway bars which is $20 separately along with tubes of diff oil which are $7 each.

Assuming you buy 1 pair of shock caps, front and rear shock towers with the sway bars and diff oils we're already up to $131 which completely counteracts the $130 you would "make" selling the radio system/engine... and that's assuming it all sells for the prices you wanted it to.

And I haven't even started to mention the upgraded shock shafts, hinge pins, and hingepin braces, or the $112 milled chassis you get with the pro roller. There are also a few visual goodies like the anodized signature Losi green/gray hexes and wheel nuts. Also, the pro roller comes with XBT Buggy Tires where the RTR comes with step pins... anddddd... the RTR comes with a pre-cut screen printed body where the pro-roller comes with a pre-cut clear body... hmm.. and I think the pro roller comes with a higher quality spindle/hub pivot thing. I forget what they're called :)

So basically if you keep the RTR you'll lose money, lose time by wrenching on the car and dealing with removing, photographing, listing, negotiating, packaging and shipping the components you don't want, and at the end of the day you'll be missing a lot of the pro-roller upgrades.

I think I'd stick with the race roller. You'll save a lot of money, time, and have a much better car.

Ya but ebay is great and I picked up most of that stuff for penny's on the dollar. I wanted to run it so I kept it, but it hasn't been w/o issues.. LOL right now I was running 5th in the a-main and she just stopped on me.. for some reason she isn't getting any fuel. I can't wait for this to be brushless, just waiting on the kit to arrive. :P the guys at the track all just laugh and say that you shouldn't have bought the Looosee. HEHE.
