Servo's for Savage - 09.12.2008, 06:49 PM

G'day,

What servo's do you all recommend for the Savage?

I have a Futaba 3PM Tx and will be buying a new Rx and servo's for my Savage electric conversion.

I am looking for value for money and have used Hitec in the past with good results but do not know what servo will perform well and have a good life span bashing a big truck around.

I will need a steering servo and one for the mechanical brakes I will keep running.

I did a search but got too many hits to read through them all and most just mentioned "servo" not recommendations.

Thanks

Any good brand name servo witn more than 200oz of torque and a metal gear set should be fine for steering. More is always better but at some point more just becomes more expensive and you dont really that that much more benenfit.

For the brake servo you could just more the stock steering servo and that should be plenty of power for the brake. I am using an older servo with only lke 80oz of torque and it is fine there.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Hi,

I use ACE DS1015 (0.1s 15kg @ 6V or something) for all my steering duties including buggies, truggies & of course savages. About USD91 a pop at my lhs. For brakes I will ACE 2008 but I do not recommend this servo

Regards,
Joe Ling

I'm using Hitec 5955TG for which is now replaced by Hitec 7955TG. Another good option is the JR Z9000T DIGITAL SERVO or JR DS8711.

Thanks for the advice.

I have just placed an order for a Associated DS1015 (steering), Associated DS1313 (brakes) and R603FS to go with my 3PMTx from Tower. Even with freight this is a saving of about $100 over prices here in Australia.

The Associated servos are the Ace/Thunder Tiger branded differently.

Where did you get the Hitec servos from?

I am all for supporting the local shops but somethings are so much cheaper bought direct from overseas.

i totally agree - they all need to be online to be ½-way competitive - it's the shipping that kills it for them i think tho.. and the oz dollar the way it is atm wouldnt be helping em out at all -lol-

rc-mall.net is where i got the servos - they're in italy tho - but they had other bits and pieces i needed also, so saved me doubling up on shipping, and considering the order was over USD$150, the shipping was express, and for only $21, i figured it was fairly cheap - mainly for 3 reasons...
a) it's coming from italy
b) i've paid more than that for stuff from the states
c) shipping would have cost me more than double that if i bought the parts in 2 stores closer to this side of the world...

i'd hate to think how much they would want for the 7955TG if that's what they're charging for the previous model -lol-

will have to catch up for a bash with u or something when (or if - i'm already ½ broke and in the shit with the missus -lol-) i ever get round to saving enough to finishing my truck off =) U on the south or northside of brissy? =)

You going the kershaw or FLM conversion? Or somethng else? =)

I am on the north side. I have a Losi XX buggy (12yrs old) and 2 model drag cars that I race up here with QMDRA.
The Savage is for bashing fun, although I live near the Brisbane Dirt Racing track at Arana Hills so might look into racing one day.

I have a Kershaw mount coming from Lincpimp on this forum and will have to figure out the battery mounts later. I am about half way through the build and still need to decide on what motor and ESC to run.

I run a CC MM5700 in my funny car and have recently ordered a CCMM7700 for my dragster so have been leaning towards the Monster Max but want to hear that all the problems have been addressed befoe ordering one. May I will get a combo???
