Neu Rotor Hard to Turn - RC-Monster Forums

Quick question for the brushless motor wizards. I have a Tekno Neu motor and the rotor turns over very easily. I have an older Neu and the rotor is much harder to turn by hand. I heard that the Tekno Neu's had been designed like that to lessen clogging or something like that. My question is what makes the Original Neu so hard to turn over? I mean sure it has a strong neodymium magnet but the motor can is made out of alluminum and I believe the coils are made out of copper which are both non-Ferrous Metal (non-magnetic). So what is the magnet acting on to cause the rotor to be so stiff? Is there a steel sleeve holding the coils or what? Just curious, both motors work great.

The older Neus use a more focused slotted stator setup, which gives you those sharply defined "detents". The newer ones have a wider focal point, which smooths out the detents. Apparently, some ESCs find this easier to deal with.

My x11 4.5 and 3.5 LRP motors have these sharp detents as well, whereas my hackers have none. The mamba esc has a hard time starting up the x11's up smoothly.

That's strange, my MM ESC was acting up (sent it back) but it had an easier time with my Medusa, which has this chunkiness to it, than it did my Hacker which is much smoother.

There was a thread on this a while back. I think it dealt with the CC Neu's. Same difference, though. The "Neu Neu's" use a regular slotted design where the slots are parallel to the poles of the rotor. The "CC Neu's" or "Tekno Neu's" either have no slots (like LMT/Hacker), or use a different geometry (helix?) for the slots to reduce the cogging effect.

How come nobody has taken one of these new Neu's apart yet so we can have a solid answer to this burning question?

I need to call Neu when I get back from CO to see what it will cost to fix. If it costs too much I'll pull it apart and take plenty of pics.

How old is it? Mine was under a year old, and neu fixed it for nothing, and returned shipped it to me too. All I paid for was shipping to them... It was a real neu, and the magnet came loose. Hope they will fix yours...

I bought mine back in April/May sometime. I would be really happy if they would fix it under warranty, but since the damage was my fault I wouldn't be upset if I had to pay to have it fixed.
